ParticipantYeah HDR and tone mapping software would be too far for this contest as it’s currently been suggested.
I thought as much. That’s OK, though, I think I can make some passable (maybe even vote-worthy) images from some of my subs. None of the panos I’ve posted here will be allowed in their present form, I’ll have to go back and see what I can do with a single set of exposure levels. The way my luck runs, I’ll be unable to enter due to being rode hard at work way out in Rooster Poot anyway…
Since we’re talking about panos, how do people like to host them? If I use picasa as usual it would be hard even for people who clicked through to get anything much larger than gets posted to the thread. I really want to use this one: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/pbvj4M-x7TyA93yvM8tB6wgoPNmLZef3e7s-RQjQBBY?feat=directlink
but it really needs to be viewed at larger sizes.I’ve been using flickr to post panos, sample here. Long panos are pretty ungainly for the web no matter where you host, though…

Participanthmmmmm…. all of my panos employ some tone-mapping, so I’m guessing they’re out of the running? If so, I’m gonna have to go dig out some RAWs.

Participantheheh… thank you! I know a few folks who are gonna love this LOL

ParticipantBeautiful. That blue sky is so deep…

ParticipantIt’s definitely functional, does what you’d expect without tearing up the goods while dispensing. Where’d you see it? I want one, but my stepson got it as a gift and has no idea from whence it came.

Participanthah… just found this one in the batch of pics…

How often do you find a tissue dispenser worth taking a pic of?chupathingie
ParticipantIs that a drunk ewok? 😆
How cool… new trivia! There’s even a picture of a nearly identical statue.

ParticipantPuts that squirrel to shame, don’t it?
HAHAHAHA I was trying to find a tactful way to mention the twins, there… but I think you’ve pretty much beat anything I could come up with.
I found this in a sushi restaurant somewhere between Pocatello and Boise. My stepson and I both halted and wore the quizzicaldog.jpg for a minute when we walked in. Gotta love those nips. :rimshot:
Is that a drunk ewok?
That or someone fed Timothy Leary’s Gizmo after midnight…

ParticipantHahahah…I needed a laugh today… been one hell of a week. And thanks for the comments, all… praise from this group of future masters means a lot.
Orionid, I agree totally with the idea of stitching then tonemapping, but there are a lot of reasons why I take the reverse route. Qtpfsgui balks at very large images and introduces some seriously ugly artifacts (Krita has tonemapping filters, but I have yet to play with them). Also I’d have to stitch 3 sets of images of differing exposures in Hugin, and there’s no guarantee they’d stitch the same each time. So I stack the 16-bit/channel tiff sets through the tonemapper first, then run the resulting 8-bit images through hugin for stitching.
And regarding the other comments about HDR, yes they are, and yes it’s subtle (or at least I try to keep it that way). I’d actually like to tone it down a little more, but the options are a bit limited. I love the look of HDR, and some images really look good with heavier tonemapping but for myself, I just want to bring out details and contrast over a wide dynamic range without the usual LDR trade-off (ie shadow detail at the expense of highlight detail etc.). Tonemapping manages to do things that levels and curves won’t.

ParticipantBeautiful…. did it set control points by itself, or did you have to do any manual action?
Glad to see it working for you!

ParticipantOne more, and off to bed…

http://www.flickr.com/photos/44012674@N04/5594461960/sizes/l/I had to crop a lot of the foreground out, sadly. I really should buy myself a proper panohead if I’m going to continue doing panoramic landscapes.

ParticipantUnder the “Stitcher” tab in the “Output” section, select “Fused and blended panorama” under the “Exposure fusion” section. This will add an additional file named filename_fused.tif to your output folder after the run is done. The exposure in this file is much more agreeable than the default output.

ParticipantThat image with the circles is definitely odd. The others look like they could be tweaked in the crop section of the preview window, since the move function also rotates.
I’ve never hit the autocrop button, I just set the crop when I’m in the preview pane manually.
There are some new features in the 2010.2.0 version over what I have (panosphere I think?) which I have no clue about which may explain the circular image, or possibly a mis-set focal length on the images. Did you allow the program to pull the F.L. from the EXIF data or did you set them manually?

ParticipantWell this is just strange… every time I’ve installed hugin it’s worked for me. I may fire up a windows partition tonight and see if I can re-create this problem. It’s a bit disappointing to recommend something that works so well for me, just to have it open a big stinky box of FAIL on everyone else. 🙁
