ParticipantPlease note I used Photoshop as a verb, not a noun. 🙂 I consider any alteration via software synonymous with Photoshop. I’ve been a Fark Photoshopper longer than a Farktographer.

ParticipantBecause I have been a Farktographer for (checks Bibliostats) three years now I have sort of become…constrained…but in a good way by the rules of Farktography. I’ve almost given up HDR entirely, though this is probably just the natural evolution of a digital photographer, and NEVER open an image in Photoshop, doing my editing in Lightroom. Then along comes a theme like this and I remember how extraordinary digital art can be. We are 15 minutes into Live and I see gorgeous pieces of work done simply by looking at a shot and saying “What If?” instead of “What Is This?”
I think I am a far better photographer because of the rules of Farktography, because I think “in camera” like I did in my film days. But, damn have I forgotten how much fun and what beautiful things one can do when one opens up Photoshop and just goes for it.
I said it in the thread, I will repeat it here: I think this will be a stellar theme.

ParticipantSunset, off camera flash, meter for the background light subject with flash=magic.

ParticipantAs with so many other themes I thought were…odd 😀 I find my results in this theme truly pleasing. That’s one of the things keeping me coming back to Farktography is you people keep demonstrating that I know bupkiss 😛

ParticipantCongrats to U-Man this week!
You need a macro for that 😀

ParticipantWow, did everyone take the week off this week?

It’sa Bee, but the reason I am posting it is they just put these new steps in outside my apartment leading up the street. The steps get this amazing light all day long, yet prior to this were these awful metal monstrosities. Now new brick and stone steps. It is about to become a default background for a lot of still life shots.ennuipoet
ParticipantWell dang; I have the Home Premium, but the motherboard tops me out at 8. Even with just 4 (Fry’s sold me the wrong memory; Olav tipped me off to another vendor and I’ve ordered online) though, the 64 bit is zippity fast–my astrostacking takes less than 1/2 the time it did.
I bought a new desktop this Summer with 8g of RAM, 64bit etc…I forgot how nice it was to not take three hours downloading and Lightrooming pics. I believe I can upgrade mine to 16g but I will wait until things seem slow, then give myself a treat.

ParticipantHaha, I was thinking about doing something with my B/W chemicals (besides processing some film) and then I saw your pictures on flickr ennuipoet, only I was thinking on putting a small digicam up front with the bottles in the background.
Might as well go the fetish way and whore some votes =)
I was going to put my CF cards in the freezer with my film and shoot that, but then I started thinking…hmmm, where can I go with this?
Of course, it’s a niche shot that most Farkers won’t get. Huh? What is all that stuff next to the monitor?

ParticipantFor the forgetful amongst us…
It’s WEDNESDAY!!!
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
And I just finished shooting for this week. This is the first week in I can’t remember where everything I enter is actually new.
Admittedly some of it was not shot for this theme, but it works so well.

ParticipantRav: I have a remote release, I just didn’t use it. I keep it in the bags with my strobes, so I always forget about it. I will take it with me from now on.
Thanks Chupa good to know!

ParticipantPretty cool, ennui. If you could get both water and air traffic, that’d really be neat. Looking forward to your future results.
I think my next stop will be the New York Harbor, the flights take off from Newark and turn out over the harbor before heading over Manhattan. With all the water traffic and air traffic it could be very interesting.

ParticipantLooks pretty good so far. How’s the wind? I’m looking for like 5mph gusting to 12 if I’m trying to do 120secs.
Did you use the darks, and if so, how?
I was on a high spot looking down over the river, so I had a steady 5-10 mph wind with heavier gusts. This spot is probably ten stories about the river, so it amplifies the wind as it spills over the top.
I used two dark frames for a 49 image stack. The dark frames don’t have to be shot on the same lens as the originals, I mean the lens cap is on. I also wonder if the dark frames are as important with this as with astro. There is so much ambient light in these shots.
There is a lot I don’t know about Stacking and I am learning as I go. I’ve no interest in astrophotography, mostly because I live in a place there the sky looks like that^^^^ at night.

So, shifted locations for better sky. I am still picking up a lot of ground level distortion, it may be that tonight was very windy and at 30 second exposures I am getting a little vibration. It also may be that this software really isn’t designed to do what I am doing with it. Either way, I can photoshop in a clean shot of the skyline as a background and lay the final image over the top.
I can see I am going to be out in the dark a lot this Winter. Note to self, buy long underwear.
The light stream in the water is a police boat heading down river…I am really happy I got that.
