Congrats to fluffybunny on the “Best” win and to U-Man on the “Funniest” win this week!

Also wondering, fluffybunny just how long it took you to make all those bacon roses? Well done!

Oven? I don’t know why, but I pictured you wrapping the roses and then taking a blowtorch to it to ensure crispiness 😀 Congrats.

Hmmmmm,… blowtorch, I like your thinking.

    Thanks Els,

Maybe an hour on the roses aside from oven time. There’s an “instructable” for it, one of the first few links if googling “bacon roses”

I just took the time to read the verbal warfare about votewhoring. What I don’t understand is why anyone who is not participating would care one way or the other what we are entering in our contests. You can see far more body parts’ exposure on TV, the beach, movies, etc. While I tend to have old fashion values, I have never felt uncomfortable with any entry. I may not like it for the photographic value, but never for the content. You did well defending yourself and the rest of the farktography group. Kudos to Elsinore ❗

Opinions are like… everybody has one, as the old saying goes. There was a contest a while back where a non farktographer took the time to post in the contest thread a small whine about us using “fancy titles” and “why don’t we just let the photos speak for themselves” (oddly not long after we had a thread about that same subject here). I think Elsinore and maybe sleeping or somebody had to remind them that they could vote accordingly.

I guess for all we don’t know about voters, this is a form of feedback. Someone is watching and cares. Just not in a way that we necessarily agree with or understand.

You guys make life worthwhile! The internet part of it, at least.

You say that as though there is some “other” part of life. Tell me more of this strange idea.

fluffybunny, LOL! You’ve put waaay too much thought into it, my friend. The rest of us have long ago given up on trying to figure out Fark voters, but you go right ahead and keep f***ing that chicken. 😆

ennuipoet, what the heck did I just watch?!? Are you sure it’s just Jameson talking? 😉

Yeah, I kinda avoided those links as I am on night shift. Will have to wait until morning.

Here’s a theory (work in progress):

Thurs 0000-0600, the narcissistic and vain farktographers are finished trying to jam their photos into Fark at the same time and can now embrace priority two: voting for their own entries. This part of the curve has an exponential build in because during their hysterical fervor it takes them a while to remember that they can only vote once.

Thurs 0600-1200, mainstream Fark has read all the good threads and now looks for a last resort excuse to continue not doing work at work. The curve tends to break or plateau here because the opportunity to eat has presented itself in the form of lunch.

Thurs 2200-2400, a comm satellite passes over the island of Yap in the Federated states of Micronesia, opening a small window of internet access to a dedicated group of farktographer fans who take turns peddling the bicycle generator and voting.

Fri 1000-1200, on average fark loses 3 members each week but it also gains 3 noobs. This happens precisely during this time and the newcomers are overwhelmed with joy at finding farktography and their voting buttons. Note that these 3 noobs will have lost that joy by the time the next contest rolls around so it’s all zero sum.

Fri 1400-1600, after a long lunch for those people who didn’t call in sick, the most effort that can be expended is the click of a mouse. Little thought is invested, essentially these are just random votes.

Fri 2200-0200 Sat, calling it a night but still feeling “tipsy”, these are the voting equivalent of “drunk dialing”.
    I love you man.

Sat 1400, the geriatric demographic has accidentally stumbled into the voting page and is pressing the button in response to re-runs of Alex Trebek’s answers. [ding] What is a belt onion?

Sun 2400, somewhere deep in the bowels of fark, a 4800 baud modem lights up and accepts an inbound telnet session. The visitor SU’s into the voting code and stacks the deck for some lucky winner.

I keed,…. ya’ll are good people. Glad to know you.

So what about the step changes, particularly Sat and Sun around midnight?

You might want to look at “Best Business Practices for Photographers” by John Harrington, esp. Ch. 15, “Contracts for Weddings and Rites of Passage”.

Going on the assumption that you’re not doing this gratis, you might want to look at some resources for writing the contract with the bride to be. There can be heaps of emotional overhead all pivoting on a one time photo opp. A well written contract, understood by both parties can go a long way towards keeping your relationship with the client peaceful and professional.

No, he made a post after his boobies post saying “Please only use the Best button. Funny votes won’t be counted for the results of this contest.” People could still use the button but he wasn’t going to be looking at the results for Funny. I meant to go back and look at the voting results to see if people paid attention to his post but for the life of me I cannot remember what the topic was and I can’t find a way to search for my posts, which I thought I had done before the site redesign.

I use google to search for users on fark (brackets not included):

    “site:fark.com [username] [keywords]”

I have two others if anyone’s interested.

I’m always interested, but being on the east coast it’s not too much of an issue (usually) to stay up ’til midnight to post.

Until I start doing PSes again I won’t be paying for a sponsorship, so you probably won’t get the gift back.

Just thought I’d lay it all out there. If others are more worthy (other Europeans like Farktographer for instance) I won’t be too upset to be passed over. Being able to go to bed before midnight by choice is nice, however.

Ok, I’ll wait and see who bites.

I believe the sun will be at 45 degrees @ 1600 on March 20 (equinox) with sunset @ 1930. My limited experience with strobes outdoors was either shaded or closer to sunset. I use GN130 (ft) hot shoe strobes, probably not an option for you.

I’m not sure, either. I’m guessing you’d have gotten some sort of e-mail with instructions? I’d have no idea… I just remember a discussion about it previously.

I think I sent you a TF month. Let me know if it worked.

I have two others if anyone’s interested.

Sooooo…I’m thinking about finally breaking down and getting totalfark. Probably wouldn’t use it too much except for the farktography contests, but posting at 11 at night makes a lot more sense in Manchester than waking up in the wee hours of the morning to do it. I’m going to try to milk out an extra month though – isn’t there a thing where, if someone sponsors me, I get that month free, and then if I buy a subscription, they get their sponsorship back?
Also, what time (EST) are the TFers able to post, so I can figure it out for UK time?

I have not gifted mine out yet, you’re welcome to it if you like. Not sure how it works.

See, I could imagine an urban “landscape” that just screams desolation, something full of broken/empty/abandoned buildings with nary a soul in sight.

Kind of reminiscent of the photos coming out of Best Korea?
