ParticipantWow… just got in from vacation, didn’t realize this was coming up so fast. So I scrambled through the archives, picked about about 10 shots that I thought might fit and eenie-meenied 3 of em to submit. So this could be interesting.
This is definitely one of those themes where I’m not sure about my own entries, but strongly looking forward to everyone else’s, if not just to see their take on the subject.
I’d say you did some pretty good eenie-meenie-ing! 😀

ParticipantI know this is probably a lot, but the sun ones I won’t use. A couple look similar. Overall though, I think they’re cool. Talk about great timing to go out and get those!
Okay, I looked at them all – pretty quickly, though, so keep that in mind; not an in depth “let them sink in” kinda way.
First, I prefer the ones that aren’t backlit.
Second, if you have a choice (have other pix to submit or can stand to submit less than three), I wouldn’t submit only these pictures even though you could pick three of these and have three fabulous pictures… the voters will probably just pick their favorite one.
Third – Way to go for going for every possible angle. 😀 😀 😀 Seriously, that is the way to learn what works and what doesn’t. Good on ya. 😀

ParticipantSorry U-Man, that was clouddancer talking to herself that I was thinking of when I said that… I read all those posts and misremembered who said what lol.
clouddancer – i haven’t looked at all your pix yet, but I wanted to say that I took my camera with me to my herceptin infusion this morning and we too had a particularly blue sky here today and I got TWO shots (actually one doesn’t have sky… lmao) that I’m going to use, banishing previously considered shots to the b-sides folder. 😉 Anyway, just goes to show that taking your camera with you all the time is good policy. 😉

Participantclouddancer- the clouds don’t bother me in that shot. in opposition to U-Man, I think partial cloudiness would detract more than the pretty much uniform color you have right now. You might be able to do something with your camera software’s lighting settings to make the clotheline pop a little more out from the sky, but I really wouldn’t stress about it too much. 🙂

ParticipantOh yeah. That bit about being on one side or the other. I plan on using three different levels of minimalism and see what works.
that’s a good plan, and I think I’m going to have to go with it as well. 😉

ParticipantThis guys work is what I think of when I think minimalist and is what I am using as a template for this week.
interesting stuff. to my mind the trick with those kinds of photographs is to make them compelling. some of his are and some are not. not really criticizing too much, i’m in no position to throw stones lol. I don’t think I could put into words where that line is that makes something remain minimal and yet not be soooo abstract as to fail to engage the viewer. I suspect I’m going to err on the other side 😉

Participantvery well and helpfully put U-Man.

Participantto add some examples of my own… to a greater or lesser degree… not necessarily representative of what i’ll do in this contest, but fairly minimal, i’d say.

Participantyou could get epic pix, you could get pix of tree branches, you could get arrested… this plan has everything!

ParticipantI don’t have anything specific in mind, just picking nits… I’m assuming that you can’t *remove* significant elements either? Making that work — even if I wanted to — would be far beyond my PS skillz. 😛
edited to add:
although I suppose it would be *one* way to get my ex-husband off the couch on his days off… *gigglesnort*

ParticipantHey U-Man – any tips (c’mon, you’re going to win anyway 😉 ) for those of us for whom B&W doesn’t come naturally?
edited to add: I would think you’d want a pic that naturally has a lot of contrast and (if this isn’t the same thing) you wouldn’t want bokeh. That’s all i got. 😛

ParticipantThanks, bucky, that opens it up somewhat for me. I have some pix snapped from an airplane (small airplane, so reasonably cool pix) but other than that it’s difficult around here to get much elevation. Flood plain and all that, donchaknow. 😉
/besides, i have recently mused on the fact that most of my “odd perspective” shots are just “from below” shots =P … so this is good for me; forces me to work on that.

Participant*blush* Thank you Mopsy.
And lol, I didn’t see the “floating” because I’ve been looking at that picture for so long… I just looked at it with “fresh eyes” and could see what you mean. 😀 I’m so pleased it did well because it really honestly is one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken.
By my calculations I’ll probably be back off the stats top 10 next week, but it was fun to see my name there!! 😀

ParticipantElsinore – what do you think about changing the theme description to something like “difficulty: standard themes only; in other words: no __” and then all that other stuff? Makes it look more like I’m not picking on specific themes but instead just going old-school or whatever, if you see what I mean.
justkat
ParticipantMy instinct is to avoid “themeless themes” so that it’s very clear why the farktographer wanted the picture in question for the contest in question…. it was just too late. Are you following me? I think that would be pushing it a bit with “homeless” contest, myself because of that themeless theme feeling about it. Arguments can be made, and I’m willing to listen, but that’s my feeling on the spirit of this contest.
