Good on you. My two tearsheets are one each of a non-profit that I gifted my shots to, and a for-profit that paid me. I probably asked a little too low for the paid one, but now that I’m more researched, my prices are going to be closer to fair market.

I’ve also got (the 2010 edition of) a book with lots of magazines, news papers, and websites that accept unsolicited submissions and what they’re rates are. I used that to figure my starting points. Major pubs will drop a cool grand for a cover shot, and 50-150 is common for a 4×6 or smaller. So yeah, if they won’t pay $50, they don’t deserve your work.

What’s the name of the book? That might be interesting to have.

I just have to say fluffybunny’s windmill shot is superb. A number of other standouts as well. I only managed to get two shots done for this one and not going to attempt to find a 3rd quote to fit an archived shot. So onward to the next contest.

Oh, FML…I left my post on ‘Preview’ and got distracted, then hit Submit before seeing the new replies. So I’ll go ahead and post my last one, then if it’s decided differently that old shots shouldn’t be used, they can be pulled.

In my case, here was my process; knew a couple of my horse books should have something that would work with shots I have. I opened the ‘Spirit’ book to a picture of an Arabian, went to the next page and first saw the highlighted quote I used in the thread. I knew I had at least one Arabian with all four feet off the ground. Then I remembered I’d used that shot in the first Software Hootenanny, so I used a different horse from the same day’s shoot.

On the one I haven’t posted yet, the first page I looked at, again it had pictures (lol me likey picture books!), so on the following page, the quote used was what I saw first and knew what picture would fit it.

But, if I’m the only one who dived, don’t change it. I’d feel bad that others restricted their choices and I went off on my merry little way…as usual. (too much of the good stuff!) 😆

Well there’s two of you who were confused enough to archive dive. I don’t think that fits the theme, but if it’s that confusing, should we allow it? To some extent, without people being honest, there’s a good likelihood I wouldn’t be able to police every entry for whether they were taken after this theme was scheduled or not. I’m usually an admitted stickler for the rules and theme intention/requirements, but I also don’t want to go so far that participation is overly prohibited. Maybe plamadude3000 will wander in and let us know what he’d prefer to see done….

Yeah, I didn’t want to go outside the rules but sometimes theme wording is ‘go shoot it’, but diving is ok. Since fewer themes require new shots, maybe those that don’t should say specifically ‘no diving allowed’ to help avoid confusion.

If everyone else interpreted it as new shots only too, I’m fine with leaving mine out.

My previous response might get lost in the thread, but the intention was to open a book randomly and take a picture after that, using whatever phrase is on that page as inspiration to take the photograph. So I interpret that as not being an archive divable theme. It’s quite possible we’ll see casual Farktographers violating that ideal once the thread hits the Main Page, but that was the intention of the theme.

Aww poop, ok. I’d asked way back in the thread & didn’t get an answer, so I asked again and I think it was Kestrana that said it should be ok. But no biggie, go ahead and delete my Arabian shot. Sorry gang!

I have no inspiration, instant or otherwise and since this is not an archive diveable theme looks like I’m out this week. Legos is not looking promising either. My grandson took all his legos home last summer and I doubt I will get them back in time. Oh well, I was due for a break anyway!

I thought it was ok to archive dive? If not, I’ll only have one rather than three and the horse one I posted should be pulled. I’ll post my new shot and wait for confirmation before doing the other.
