Ah thanks for the clarification Elsinore!

ParticipantWeather at that time of year is generally highs of 75-85 degrees with lows as cool as mid-50s at night. July is also by far the clearest and driest month of the year with an average of 4-5 clear days a week and avg. rainfall under 1 inch a week. Although relative humidity is high, this is not humidity like the midwesterners know it. There are also very few bugs – no mosquitoes for one thing – but spiders are plentiful.
There is a KOA campground located in Kent, WA very close to Tukwila. If people are interested in camping and we all want to camp, I would be down for that. Camping’s also available in all the major national and state parks in the area during the summer.
Hope you guys can make it Olav, I’ll do whatever I can to seek out the most affordable options. If I lived in a house I would happily put everyone up but my little apartment really isn’t available for a large group of guests. If we choose a hotel option in Tukwila I will also be staying there because I won’t want to drive all the way back to my place in the South Sound.
Maybe I’ll play the lottery between now and then. Mom always says I’m lucky.

ParticipantI would love to do that. Maybe next year! Farktography party in Alaska!

ParticipantIf anyone else lives up here and wants to help out, please let me know!

Participantre: soosh‘s panorama – doooooood. Amazing.
Hellooooooo…. Farktography party. This is what we’ve been saying. Plus excessive camera geekery.
Came to say that as soon as I saw her post. Did we ever get anywere with that? Sorry haven’t been around much lately 🙁
Yes, in the polling center we have been talking about the fark party. I will make a new post with the small consensus we have so far, in some place more prominent.

ParticipantCorsec & Soosh, those are beautiful shots!
Question for the group; while uploading my pictures using Firefox 3.0.1, which as I understand isn’t color managed, I noticed that my pics look way over-saturated. When viewing through Safari or my image programs, they look correct. So do you guys usually post for color managed or non-color managed browsers? I’m just afraid after I tone them down a bit, that they’ll look too dull on color managed browsers.
I look at my pictures in both firefox and chrome and if one looks significantly different I try to find a happy medium. I haven’t really noticed much of a problem though, so maybe it was a wee bit too much saturation.

ParticipantI was impressed with the quality of pictures I got from my Canon at the time I had it compared to other cameras. Even after I dropped it down a 250 ft embankment while rock climbing, it still worked perfectly (it didn’t look so pretty on the outside though).
I’ve also used a Nikon and it seemed fine.
I currently use a Samsung SL620 and I like a number of things about it over my previous cameras. It has a 5x zoom lens to do basic telephoto photography but it also handles macro. With a tripod I think it takes great night pictures. The auto focus and color balance in camera results in clear true to life pictures on download which is good if you don’t have an editing program or a lot of time to invest in photo editing. Samsung isn’t a big name in cameras but I don’t see replacing my current one with anything other than a DSLR.
To compare and contrast a little here are photos with a similar subject from all three cameras:
Canon: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kestrana/4289793220/
Nikon: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kestrana/4289802642/
Samsung: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kestrana/4288943311/If you can find a deal on a used SLR though, I agree it’s worth the investment if you plan to continue pursuing photography as a hobby. I wish I had pushed more forcefully to buy one when we were looking at cameras because now I just bought my camera and can’t really justify spending money on another one especially more money. Its a chicken or the egg dilemma though – without my current camera I wouldn’t have been actively taking pictures for farktography, and thus wanting the new camera.

ParticipantReally amazing abstract ice shots and I also loved the one of the dog sniffing the ice – black dog on vibrant blue background.
