I had no problems earlier when I set up my entries. But that was like 4 this afternoon. Gotsta love the fark test page thingy.

The problem is that I can’t seem to navigate the Flickr site all that well. Some tabs work, some don’t. The “Share this” tab and “Actions” tab don’t work. The “Newer” and “Older” tabs on the photostream work. I have NoScript enabled for the site, too.
Must be because I touch myself at night.

LeicaLens, try imgur.com. That’s what I used before moving to my own host and it worked great for me.

There’s also min.us. A newcomer – Haven’t used them but they’re getting somewhat popular on reddit.

Thanks. I did one on Imageshack and one on imgur (I had forgotten about imgur; I think they’re better than imageshack now).

    And a b-side:

Anyone else having a problem with Flickr?
When I click on the “share this” tab, I get nothing. No idea how to post a picture from Flickr. Any other good hosts?
    Is imageshack still going?

I’ll only buy it if it does Sepia as well.

Yeah…. I’m leaning towards using stuff from the antiques, since I know they didn’t change. Everything else, I’m having to look at other shots from the same shoot to see whether or not I switched primes around. I do know I’ve got several occasions where I was armed with only the 24mm, but all of my macro-hunts, I usually carried the 24 with in case I saw something worth going wide.

Yup, to make sure I stay within the rules, I am going back to film archives when I only had my Canon AV-1 with 50mm lens, or when I specifically went out with one lens to practise with it, and have labelled the folder as such.
I might take my DSLR out with my 25mm prime just for this contest, but otherwise I won’t be able to archive-dive into my digital stuff.

OK, I’m confused now. If they don’t all have to be taken at the same focal length, what’re the restrictions for those of us who are primeless?

I think the idea is to go out with only one prime (or zoom fixed at one focal length only) and take pictures like that.
If I am using my OM cameras, I have a range of primes to choose from. If I keep changing primes mid-shoot, then I can’t use those shots for this contest.
If, however, I go out one day with a 50mm lens, shoot a roll of film, get it developed and stuff, then I can use shots taken from that film.
It would be fine to go out the following day with just a 85mm lens, say, shoot a roll, and pick a shot from that roll to go into the contest.

That is the way I am interpreting it.
For those with zoom lenses only, it’s going to require a lot of self control.
Actually, for multi-prime users, it’s going to require a lot of self control.
    And honesty.

The way I understand it, they don’t all have to be taken with the same prime, only that they are taken at a time when you are shooting only with that prime.
    Is this correct?

    That’s right.

    Lovely, thanks.

We can use photos taken with different primes on different occasions, right?
For example, I have a few that I took a couple of months ago when went armed only with my 135mm.
Today I was out with only a 50mm, and if I get the film developed in time, I have some I may want to use. That would be alright, no?

No bother 🙂 Flickr only recently changed their layout and file size options a couple months back, so it still catches people from time to time.

Aye, and I had just signed up to Flickr right before they did that. Threw me for a right loop 😯

Ahhh right. You don’t get access to the original files unless you’re a pro user, which really sucks in these instances. I wonder if you could get around that by using the _o.jpg extension (which is what it gives you for originals) instead of the _b.jpg .

Well I noticed this time that the original file size is given as an option, so as long as I remember what size I posted, I should be ok. In future I will set a size that stands out, such 629 by 472 for horizontal, and something similar for vertical. That way I won’t confuse it with the Flickr options which are always round numbers.

Sorry for all the bother and quickfire questions.

Yeah, that’s Flickr’s compression at work. It’s high quality which leads to huge file sizes. When posting images from Flickr, be sure to grab the original file, not large or other sizes. The original will be the same file/size that you uploaded, so you’ll know it’s Fark-sized.

Gotcha. Flickr doesn’t give me an option called “original”, but it is usually included under a different name (either one of the medium sizes or large).

If your original is within the file size limit, post it rather than any smaller versions from Flickr. Because yes, they re-compress for the other sizes, and in doing so, the smaller versions often suffer from file size bloat. This is a bonus in terms of quality, since they’re using high quality compression, but it screws us over for Farktography because it easily exceeds Fark’s file size limit. If your original is beyond Fark’s pixel size limits, you can still post and Fark will resize for you, though obviously image quality may suffer. If it doesn’t have to resize much, it’s usually pretty good, though.

    Done it, and it worked!
I don’t fully understand, but my original was 116kb on the disk, and measured 421 by 680, which I believe is well within the limit?
Posting at the larger medium (396 by 640) size seemed to send it over the Fark limit.

I have resized the original, which was the obvious thing to do (I was being dim).
    Should be okay now…

    …And no.
116Kb on the disk is now too big?

Is 147k the file size of your original or of the medium 387×640 size you were trying to post?

The original. The Flickr size I am trying to post *should* be smaller (smaller dimensions). Compression problem?
