ParticipantYeah had that problem with the uv filter on regular shots. I haven’t had too much trouble with that yet from the CP filter. I will keep that in mind though.

ParticipantI will definitely be in this week. I went out and got all three pics a few days ago. Had to go outside because I have crappy lighting in my home and sunlight is nice on the skin anyways. I really need to get a light box setup for stuff like my shots this week.

Participantwow. hard to get any slower at the ISO and fstop. A trigger would be cheaper and better for lightning than a quality ND filter…
/me heads on over to caradoc‘s gallery
Oh I forgot I had a circular polarizer on there too.

ParticipantISO 100, 1/4 second at f22 at 18mm with my 18-55 kit lens. Oh and manual focus. And yeah I am not real big on getting zapped by natures static either. This was from my bedroom window looking over the neighbors apartment

ParticipantIs that you that favorited this on Flickr? if so want another contact?
Ok I just clicked on your sig link thingy and answered the first question. lol

ParticipantNo I wish I had a lightning trigger. I just put my remote shutter trigger on the camera and started snapping pictures. Of almost 300 pictures this was the only success.
(edited to add) I don’t think this had any visible branching. it looked like a single line in my eye too. I had to look up arborization to understand that part.

ParticipantOk that was funny especially the last 20 seconds or so. LOL

ParticipantI like the parallelism (is that even a word?) in the second… the first one really messed up my sense of perspective, which just made me look at it even more.
That and you’re the spitting image of a friend of mine 20 years ago.
That’s kinda weird because I was thinking something very similar about his appearance. You (Pickerel) look a lot like a guy I knew long ago in Portland Or. named Bill. You don’t really look to be in your mid 40s though so I doubt you are the same guy. lol

ParticipantDamn that last shot is cool! I like the star trails and lightning in one shot.

ParticipantI have the same lens (55-250) and have been pretty happy with it.

ParticipantNice Puffin and harbor seal pictures too. Will look through the album later.

ParticipantYeah I was pretty happy with the Rebel XS. It lasted from December 08 until a few weeks ago so I am ok with it dying now that I have a replacement. I really love the new T1i. I have taken around 90 pictures in the last two days. Mostly for this next theme. It’s been a pleasure to figure out the new camera. It’s mostly just like the XS . The XS doesn’t have a sensor for when you put the camera up to the eye piece so that was interesting to learn the new one does. I had to look up what the little doodads were all about. I’m just glad that wasn’t enabled from the factory or I would have thought there was a problem with the camera.

ParticipantAnd just to make sure that wasn’t just an old wives tale type thing I looked it up.

Glad I have so far followed that advice.lokisbong
Participantmeanwhile, there’s always lightning during the ‘soons.
I wish I could capture some lightning. From my apartment I have an awesome view of all the other apts. all the way around mine. And with no natural horizon I have not even seen a decent bolt other than the flash of light in the clouds in weeks. And with no open spaces that are protected from getting zapped I have not had the urge to go out side and try that. ( kinda worry about that whole if you can Hear the lightning you can get hit thing) If I had a car I might think about it a little bit but I am not sure that would be much safer than just standing out in the open. Which is a bummer because we had a humdinger of a lightning storm just 2 hours ago. never saw a bolt other than the flash of brightness. the power went out for well over an hour though.
edited to change see to hear lightning.

ParticipantI have the 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 kit lens that came with the old camera and yeah normally great dark skies but not tonight we are enjoying some rainy monsoon type stuff here right now. I have a gnarly solid tripod now too so yeah astro-shots will be happening once the weather decides to be a bit more desert like again. lol
