olavf: I really have to find a lady photo partner so I downgrade the “creepy old man factor”. Plus, you know, it would be nice to find someone who shares my passions to feel passionate about 🙂

First of all, find a woman with patience. A LOT of patience. Someone who enjoys the camera aspect can be secondary…
    /I’ll explain more tomorrow

The irony is, when we’re out using the vintage cameras, no one seems to object at all and we get remarks like “cool man” and “wow that looks old” etc – especially from kids.

So I guess the lesson is, if you’re a pedophile/terrorist, shoot old film (??) :/

I’m almost always out and about with Kat, and I think that makes a huge difference too.

I do a fair amount of street photography as some may know. But I’m really careful if I’m going to take pictures of kids. I’ll generally ask the parents’ permission first, though I may not ask an adult for the same permission.

As far as color vs B&W in that arena, it really depends. I have pics in both mediums that I’m really happy with, but wouldn’t work at all in the opposite.

Olavf, I thought your flaming entry was amazing.

Thanks! I was pretty happy with that one too. That sort of thing is usually pretty challenging to just come out looking ‘okay’ for me.

    Thanks guys (and gals)!

I think everyone should be commended. I ended up voting for a lot of shots this week, personally.

olavf was on fire this week!
He may have three burn marks to prove it, too!

lol! Thankfully not. The nice thing about isopropyl alcohol is that it burns pretty cool 😉

Congrats again, olavf. That had to have made all your prep work feel worth it, eh?

It was worth it either way. A little judicious soldering, and I have three sweet ornaments for my tree next year 😀

I think I’m going to be spending the next three days going through all these. Thanks :/

    Project 365 x1000.

This guy took a polaroid a day from 1979 until he passed away (presumably from cancer) in 1997.

    Wow.

But think of the photos you’d get in the process…

On the bright side, alcohol boils at 70-something so the bricks stay cool in your hand.

Well, relatively, anyhow. It does begin to smart after 30 seconds or so…

Sometimes I feel like you guys are trying to make my husband set the house on fire…

Ask Kat about watching my framing on the camera for me while I hold flaming alcohol-soaked briquettes in my hand some time 😉

Oh, and on the topic at hand, I say Error stays this week, and my 2 cents into the scanner photo discussion is draw that fuzzy zig-zag line. My heart wants to say a scanner as it stands isn’t a camera, but then again, I’ve sumbled across things on flickr, devianta art, and a couple other sites where things like shoes were used to take photos.

Honestly, I could argue this either way, but my gut feel is that if the scanner is used as a camera (whether modified or not, I’ve seen interesting portraits done on scanner alone), then it’s kosher. But just laying stuff down on the flatbed and hitting “go,” not so much.

    I’ll buy that rule.

Considering how long ago we even had that discussion, and this is the first time it’s ‘actually’ come up, I don’t think it’s really going to be a problem either way.

That’s not wholly true from my understanding. The mechanism is different but the effect is similar. Try setting a strobe up and taking a picture faster than the strobe fire some time. You’ll get a ‘partially exposed’ picture because of the way the sensor is read (in the Canons I believe it’s left-to-right if my memory serves). But I’ll agree that it could be considered a different ‘principle’, so therein lies the debate.

Personally, I’m really on the fence. But it’s late and I don’t think I can effectively offer my arguments for & against so I’ll have to pick it up tomorrow.

and thanks. I’ve got to solder the crosses on the top, rather than use the hot glue I used last night, but they’re going on the tree next year 😀

LOL that rocks….and now I want to do that!

I took some silvery/pearl ornaments, popped the tops off, and crimped the metal loop to be about the width of the cross. Found the crosses (you can’t see them but there are loops at the tops of the crosses – they were in the necklace section – and small beads and ribbon with gilt edges at JoAnn’s.

Be liberal with the hot glue, though. most ornaments have frosting that will come off fairly easily, so more surface area will help the ribbon stick better. And yeah, you’ll want to solder/braze the crosses on because the wire loop doesn’t have quite enough surface area to hold the cross on were a cat to bump the tree or something. (I think material cost was around $10, and I could easily make more than a dozen of ’em for that)

olavf and orionid, I can’t tell you how close we were to having 3 versions of the holy hand grenade shot. I kinda wish I did it now because of the “meta-ness” of having 3 of them. 😆

Oh, and great job on those, both of you.

I’m actually kind of surprised there weren’t more….

I happen to know a PCB designer too. I’ve been meaning to make one of his Camera Axes anyhow.
