ParticipantI’m going to agree with linguine, clouddancer

Participanthey, olavf: i saw your photo of the red clouds and said, “well howdy-doo, i have one quite similar.”
I do too, it is (was) my 3rd highest ranked picture–until this contest (if my ranks hold out.)
//I thought Arizona had that market cornered–guess not so much. 😉
Nice eden!
We only get sunsets like that under certain conditions in late summer/early fall when the dust levels are high (I assume). We can get some nice sunsets, but you generally have to go a ways from the house to get anything decent. Yay suburbia.
And, lol. We actually got some weather tonight. Fog. Took this one about an hour ago.

Participant/edit/ //if I’m not mistaken, olavf, is that perhaps Venus above and to the left of your California weather shot? About 1 thumbprint away? Perhaps Jupiter? ISS?
It was taken facing roughly North at around 3pm on 1/23, so surely not Venus and I did a quick look – ISS is visible in the early morning here so that’s doubtful. I dunno. I can look at the full-scale shot again this evening but I doubt there’ll be anything discernible.
Haven’t had a chance to really look at all the shots yet, but from what I’ve seen there are some good ones in there this week.

ParticipantI chuckled and voted, I liked it! 🙂
This: http://www.follandfamily.com/TF/mypics/white_face-7368_sm_web.JPG
is the one I like. I think I’m going to get a print to see how it works in person. I suspect it’ll play better. And congrats to orionid on the epic win this week!

Participantolavf = red lips on white face
Thanks. I’m glad someone liked it.
I originally went for eyes open, and I like that version better, but couldn’t post it in good faith. Too much color in the eyes vs. the lips.
Oh well.

ParticipantDo you shoot in RAW and use Canon’s DPP? If so, choose the “Click white balance” option of the White balance adjustment and then click anywhere on the cloth. The point you click doesn’t have to be white – it’ll adjust the photo so that the point you click is a shade of white (i.e. gray) and should remove the green tint without affecting the red of the firecrackers much at all.
What!! 😯 This is ALL I have to do? 🙄
I shoot in both RAW/Jpeg, and have been manually attempting this via the color temp scale. Shesh. Where’s my damned manual…I gotta read up on this.
//thanks for the tip! 😀
Not always, but sometimes. Where it can come in really handy is when the light is totally wrong. 80% of the time I feel I do better adjusting manually, but I’ll usually try a click first.
Unless you have a grey card. Which I do, and usually forget to use =P

ParticipantElsinore would you delete my 2011-01-19 10:45:20 PM entry? I entered the wrong pic, and it’s already been removed.
Yep got it.
Thanks. That one had her eyes open and the brown was a secondary pop, and not *quite* what I was going for anyhow.

ParticipantOh, NOW you chime in. After I posted the door. 🙂
Sorry, it’s been an evening. We lost power at the house right before I left work, and it was out for eight minutes longer than my UPS is good for. So I had to reboot the servers, then go and take my second shot (the high-key one) and process it. On top of that I was having all kinds of posting fail for some reason =P
It’s a cool shot though. I didn’t mention it ’cause I really like the outlet, but I’m weird like that.
olavf
ParticipantWere it me, I’d probably say the cone or the outlet.

ParticipantCan we show a windy day using a person whose hair is blowing and the object she is holding also shows signs of the wind blowing? What about the aftermath of a wind storm, like trees having been blown down?
I hope so, ’cause that’s the one idea I had for next week 😕
-edit: It got windy just as the sun went down today, which means this weekend is probably going to be dull and calm and grey again.

And one b-side. I think it’s too much along the lines of one of my other ones to use.

ParticipantI have no idea yet. I’ve got two queued up and ready to go, but I think I’m going to hold off on one and see how an alternate idea I came up with last night comes out. I suspect they’ll be too similar to want to post both versions. I’ll have to see.

ParticipantI agree with Els for the reasons she stated. Additionally I like the reflection of the rose in the keys.

ParticipantI thought that only worked on Magsaysay Street…

ParticipantI think that’s all that really matters Curious. If it’s a common hobby, there’s always something to talk about even if she isn’t so interested in the technical. The this-and-that, sharing nifty websites, talking about ‘where are we going next time’, giving each other ideas on how to capture something…you never run out of things to talk about, really.
ennuipoet, I’d never invite a non-photographer along on that sort of outing for the same reasons. We have gone out with our photographer friends, though, and that’s always amusing to notice that everyone keeps wandering off in different directions because they saw this or that, and then wandering back together, and then off again… As long as there’s a commonality to the group it can be pretty fun 🙂
