ParticipantIt’s the Chinese, isn’t it. They’re done with Google and have taken on Farktography next. If this haven goes down, we’ll know…

ParticipantI felt a great disturbance, as if millions of geeks suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
Crap, someone spilled beer in the Fark router? That’ll do it.
The SOTU thread went to “lots” :/

ParticipantAt least it’s tonight and not tomorrow morning?

ParticipantHow about animals that are not pets? Or would it be better to just stay away from them altogether?
I’d stay away. You don’t know where they’ve been…

ParticipantWe’re going to put it on the calendar and cross our fingers. Any luck we’ll make an epic road trip and grab some folks on the way.

ParticipantIBack next week. Maybe I’ll use a freakin’ sunset.
Hah! And here I was pondering jumping the shark on the abstract contest 😉

ParticipantWelcome, N502KW! Kat’s got ya covered on posting stuff, but great first showing!
Also, dammit, I *knew* that frozen lake shot was jinxed 😆
If it’s any consolation, I think all of mine are this week :/

Participant18-55 will give you a nice range of wide-angle to portrait (~50mm). You would find that stuff that’s a bit farther away can get frustrating, but I don’t think the ‘zoom’ will be much worse than a P&S.
I got a 28-135 with my first Canon, and it’s not a bad walkaround lens. Likewise the 17-85 that Kat has.

ParticipantAny Canon lens (at least the digital ones) will work with the Rebels. The high-end bodies aren’t backwards-compatible with the EF-S lenses so if you go Canon and want to go to a full-frame sensor in the future you have to pick your glass or be willing to sell some off… otherwise it’s not a problem. One just needs to remember that EF lenses will have a 1.6 factor on the focal length (so a 50mm lens for example will act as an 80mm lens for example). I think that’s the same as the Nikons, but I’m not sure.
If you’re looking at getting a DSLR (which I recommend, even if it is used) my suggestion is to go to a camera shop and look at/hold both a Canon and a Nikon. IMHO they’re pretty equivalent, but they’ll feel different, and the buttons and such aren’t the same. And, once you pick a path it’s a big deal to change down the road.

ParticipantB-sides, because I couldn’t fit them all in this week :/

ParticipantYou probably had Jimi on in the background.
/sorry, my brief foray into developing was 20 years ago, and I never did it enough to actually learn the art.

ParticipantOK, if you want to make is easier to see a summary of your Farktography results in faux-barchart format, edit this link
http://nihilon.com/cgi-bin/fsmf/???and replace “???” with your login name. If you have a blank in your name I think substituting “+” will work.
That’s pretty freaking awesome 😀
/spaces work fine. the ‘+’ didn’t seem to for Kat.
Also, it’s Case Sensitive

ParticipantI think the one, two, and elusive #18 are the main ones I’m lacking.
