Ain’t it wonderful, though? I just went and stood out in the rain for an hour at 3AM the other day-it was glorious.

    Oh. My. God.

I’ve always wanted to make one. Let us know how it turns out. As it happens, I’m doing my own big cooking project for tomorrow-shredded spicy Dr Pepper pork.

It happens I requested that night off, Plama if I get it, I’ll be down there. And if so, can I come, and may I bring my aunt who lives there? (she’d love this–we were just talking about visiting Kitt).

Yes, we’re trying to get a bunch of people to go up. As I said, anybody in the area will be welcome, just let me know beforehand so we can arrange carpooling (we don’t want too many vehicles going up the mountain). We’re still not sure if we can get the 90″, but I’m 99% positive we can get the 61″ on that night. I can keep interested people updated here or by pm or email.

Oh, also I’m trying to get a night for eyepiece observing on the Bok 90″ telescope on Kitt Peak on the 16th. If you guys are in the area and feeling up to it, please let me know. I’m almost certain that I can get a night on the Kuiper 61″ on the 16th, but the Bok is even better.

I’m way up north. Nearest cross streets are 1st and Orange Grove.

That shot was way up there on my list of loved-its; a worthy 1st place, NBD

    Seconded.

Hey, I didn’t know you were moving to Tucson. We should get together before I leave.

How in the WORLD did I manage to quote myself? Ah, forum gremlins-an endless source of entertainment.

you can delete or edit your own posts.

Oh, I know, I just thought it was more amusing to leave it up. That may have been due to extreme sleep deprivation, though.

Well, yeah, Imperial College is freaking awesome in everything. Hope you get it! I still can’t believe that I got into my top choice school with such a good stipend offer. I’m supposed to be getting my RA/TA and office assignments in the next week or so. If I wasn’t so exhausted from observing nearly every damn night for the past two weeks, I’d be bouncing off the walls. Ah, the sacrifices we make for research.

52 days, 17 hours, 54 minutes, and 30 seconds from the time of this post. Approximately. (That’s the time my plane leaves the mainland). I can’t freaking wait. What are your choices for schools? I don’t know chemistry too well, but I know a few good science schools in the UK.

I haven’t tested my batteries out in Europe yet, but when I was in Australia and New Zealand, things seemed to work just fine with only an adapter. That was short term, though. Are you going off to graduate school, too, then?

I can see some really neat applications for scientific uses from this tech, but I really don’t think it’s something I’d want on my personal camera. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think art should be perfect. Limitations and difficulties are what make art great. The most important lesson I’ve ever had in this vein came from my music theory/composition days: the more you limit yourself, the more creative you have to be. As long as you make that effort to be creative, your art will NEVER suffer for the limitations. This development, while kind of cool and potentially useful for technical applications, ain’t going to engender creativity.

=D I cropped the tree to make the pic focus more on the mountains, but between us (nobody else listen!! 😛 ) I took the pic because of the tree. 😉

As for the last one: now I know more than I did before! I knew what freeway I was on, but not the name of the place. 🙂

It is a nice tree, isn’t it?

Over the past few years, I’ve been getting to know the mountains in the eastern sierra. I know a lot of the ones along the 395 pretty well.
Here’s my version of Mt. Tom from nearly the same place in winter:

Not the best picture I’ve ever taken, but it gets the point across.
