    Lovely shots–did you retain rights to use them in the contests? And where are Orionid’s shots, or was he just the equipment lackey?

    If it’s anything like your last color pop, I’m shuddering.

    I also can’t say I got nuthin, but what I do have is a bunch of standard HDR stuff.

    I looked back and saw that image–immediate ‘WOW’ factor.

    I now have software that’s supposed to be comparable to Elements–and, for the some 2 things I’ve learned to do, maybe it is. But they’re letting us work OT, nearly unlimited, and paying off the truck in 4 months takes precedence over learning new tools (I work 6 12 hr days a week right now).

    Spending my mornings unwinding and toying; don’t have much to offer for it, yet.

    What about removal of such things like power lines, fences, and other detritus–like grandma, who died 6 years ago but people keep insisting we drag her up for another picture?

    It’s interesting, them statistic things. “Travel Photography” got far more entries (270 v 210) than this one, but this one has way more votes (results not yet in, but it’s on the top ten recent contests, and ahead of TP by 3 as of Sat morning).

    Great shots by everyone–a real pleasure to vote on–congrats to Markie_farkie!

    I must admit upon handling one of these, I experienced a strong desire to own a Nikon.

    I’ve been shooting with one for about a week now.

    It beats the pants off my poor old D80. I’ve fixed my lightning trigger to function with the D7000… this summer should prove very, very interesting.

    This summer, I simply must find the time to meet up with you. Might I suggest a trip toward Tucson? Near Plamadude?

    Now didn’t you say you already had a heavy long lens that you hadn’t yet found the need to use?

    I can certainly understand wanting to build one just for the coolness factor of the build itself, but I’m having a hard time coming up with anything other than possibly astrophotography that I’d feel strongly enough about photographing to want to haul 59 lbs of lens plus whatever the hefty tripods weigh to do so. Or at least not many things that I couldn’t just move closer to and use a lighter and shorter lens.

    Funny–my telescope weighs in about about 60lb, plus 30 for the mount. Cost a *bit* more, though. And I’ve been meaning to figure out some uses for it besides the stars–issues come into play with travel and such. BTW, wedge mount is only 20 days away! Long exposures, here I come! Of course, I’ll have to figure out a time in which to drive down to Tucson to pick it up, and then time to use it.

    Rav came and visited me last month, and I think he had a good time.

    I did! I recommend the Plama-tour to everyone. I’ve picked up a boatload of OT for the next couple weeks, so I don’t know when I’ll make it down again, but I’d look forward to it. Preferably when it’s not so damned freezing cold! Oh, and sans cloudcover, too, if we can swing it.

    They also didn’t mention the Canon’s performance in the astrophotography arena, for which it’s my understanding it’s better equiped (per a pop pho mag lying around somewhere)

    Best of wishes, Plamadude

    //can I come visit?

    Thanks, Curious Ya win some, ya lose some…I don’t think I’ll do well again till ‘Pattern’, so I won’t worry about it too much.

    Seems to me that since “5 is right out” we’ve had a stronger showing than in recent memory. Do we need to do a MP theme every 6 weeks or so?

    Um…anyone else noticed the boobies on this theme?

    *Vote for Moundtans, Wawafahs, and Vaultkantoes to be precisely one week prior to the aforementioned honeymoon, not because it’s the only way the rest of us will have a chance, but because they shouldn’t spend their *entire* honeymoon worrying about some silly little contest photos, when they could be getting leid instead.

    //with each other, I mean. Not the part about the rest of us having a chance.

    //Oh, bother!

    amend that–googled it and that’s the dam to San Carlos Lake. Been there–not in a long while, before the drought (though I hear it’s full again–it was a close call there for a while).

    cam All three of my shots are from along there. The canyon is At the bottom of Fish Creek Hill. Tonto Ntl Mnmt is near the lake marina (well, the big one). I don’t believe I’ve seen Coolidge–though I may have, when I was a kid. My step-grandfather is an Arizona native, and he was 50-something at the time. Drove like a maniac in a V.W. beetle. When we moved here, my grandmother wrote the travel Arizona column in the local paper. He know the whole damned state. We went everywhere, for about 4 years or so, nearly any weekend when the weather was good. I saw more of Arizona then than most people do in a lifetime–and at a time when you weren’t likely to find a beer bottle or can, a plastic bag, etc. to remind you that someone had been there before you Things were still pretty pristine in the wilderness. 30 years later, I’ve forgotten places, then go visit them and think ‘hey–I remember this place!’. But what I do remember, is worth it.

    That Tonto National Monument–I’m in a very small group in April who will be hiking up into those ruins for picture taking. They do it in the cooler months every couple weeks, no more than 7 people, and I snagged spots for myself and one other. Haven’t decided on the ‘other’ yet.

    hrrm…initial indications are my ‘make it look like a retro travel brochure picture’ is a fail. Such is life. I like them, anyway. Remind me of the ones I saw when I was a wee lad, seeing the stuff in person for the first time.

    I added the part about photos looking like they could be on a travel brochure.

    yeah…about that….

    You know I sometimes have slightly off-centre interpretations?

    Considering my destination of choice and potentially their govt. tourism board’s expertise, I have taken a slight liberty…

    Area 51? 😆 I’m good with that.
