ParticipantOne picture per entry, correct.
Originally I’d the idea that all three images would be things that would appear on the same travel brochure, but I’m not going to hold anyone to that, esp. as it’s nearly impossible to get three posts grouped together anyway to provide that context to the voters.

ParticipantWow, good going orionid! 75 votes and counting … has anyone ever cracked 100?
Five, actually: http://www.schneeworld.com/fsm/static-reports/greatestentriesevar.html
I find it remarkable that U-Man is only on that list once–and it’s looking like Orionid will be knocking it off this week (seems very likely to me at least.)
I’ll miss that U-shot–one of my favorites. Isn’t Trickier (Tricky II) in the hopper somewhere?
ravnostic
ParticipantCaradoc I’d bet if you suggested a theme based around that shot, you’d have a winner.

ParticipantETA: I accidentally congratulated Ravnostic — who definitely deserves it! — But of course I meant Orionid.
I just figured it was late kudos from last week’s contest. No worries.

Ouch. Strong work orionid.
Holy fark, Batman! Never thought I’d see the day! big-O indeed!

ParticipantWhile we’re still trending toward a new (recent) record, it’s not quite as big of an increase as you might think. We’re less than 100 votes over Weather at the same time last week
Still, I like the way things are trending–it’s exciting to see entries with over 50 votes less than 24 hours into the contest!!

ParticipantA few well chosen words can sometimes encourage the voters to take a longer/closer look*, but it’s a risk.
I nearly quoted Ansel Adams, something along the lines of “A picture is often looked at, seldom looked into”, but I’ve experienced via photoshop contests that people think it’s an insult to their intelligence and tell me I come off as a pompous ass, so I decided not to do so (now I wish I had.) No matter–I’m well on my way to keeping up my overall average, and that’s exactly where I like to be–I don’t have to win, so long as I maintain or improve my status quo.
For the record, you’re boobage is just fine. You can serve me a sammich anytime (and I’ll say, “My aren’t those lovely? By chance is one hiding the Miracle Whip? I do hate the Grey Poupon…”)
justkat, and she (or he, if the fark profile info is accurate) actually deleted the original photo, which really is too bad. I should have gotten a screen shot. My bad.

ParticipantWell, I’ll hope she’ll repost in a ‘sfw’ links-to-‘nsfw’ format. Lovely image, though.

ParticipantElse— Nightmaretony‘s used his image in not one, but two previous contests (tawt I taw and xmas II). Is there a deeper red than scarlet for a double whammy?
….and nobody please tell me that Knockers image is stolen. It’s the best boobage-hint image I’ve probably ever seen that I didn’t black out from my memory. I’d hate to find out it’s just a picture stolen from the web somewhere.
//edit: phew–in her photobucket album, the model (and presumably the poster) is in image 9 and 19, at least, and sporting a nice dslr, as well.
ravnostic
ParticipantIt’s kinda like a pinhole, but you use two different (changeable) plates with lines or squiggles on them to completely morph the image in camera. I made a device from a cigar box that attaches to my dslr and has changeable plates, I’m just having trouble fine tuning it. It seems black printer ink is not as opaque as one would like.
I’m still not quite getting it. I understand the purpose, but where do you out the plates? Between the pinhole and the sensor? I take it the plates are supposed to allow a certain amount of light through, and block out the rest, thereby distorting the image? The squiggly lines blocking the light?
A quick google and flickr search didn’t help me much.Do correct me if I’m wrong, big O’ (may I call you that, now that you’re rocking the top spots again this week? 2 out of 3…) Imagine this–you know those ‘psychic’ reading cards where there’s two squiggly lines, or a plus sign, or a star, triangle etc? Well, picture one of those as the ‘diaphragm’ for the lens (instead of the usual shutter system, kinda like a bokeh filter, but more direct). Some light would make it to the sensor/film surface, but it would be bent around the corners, so to speak. Then picture another one, different shape, in front of it. How would the light bend to get around both of them? What kind of distortions might there be in the resulting image, given how light bends around edges? The result could be very weird, very different from what you might expect–and I think that’s what big O’ is going for here.
I’d be interested in knowing what shapes you’re toying around with.

ParticipantI was afraid of this; not a single vote for my cat walking dog. Shadows are too subtle for the voters to notice–what can I say?–not like I could have planned the shot in a million years to show the actual leash–hell I’m lucky to have noticed it when reviewing the pictures from that day. Stupid me for thinking others would see it, too.
I’ll never post a sublety again–voters just don’t pay attention. Or maybe it’s just a really crappy pic.
Nah—it’s the voter’s lack of attention. 😉
At least I got a few votes on the others! Orionid seems to be leading the pack–reclaiming the throne?

Participantbut it’s kittens playing in a box so i’m using it.
i expect to be thoroughly trounced this week but, yet again, i’m posting stuff i like.
You really can’t go wrong with kittens, and good choice of a box. +1 😀

ParticipantYep, CauseISaidSo (here; BecauseISaidSo in fark.com proper) operates that forum. He’s done a nice job with it, too. One day, I’ll use my domain to build a site, when I get a round tuit. Meanwhile, I admire his (and a few others our members maintain.)

Participantcd, google “kaleidoscope camera filter”; there seems to be lots of projects people have posted for that.
//side note; went shooting one particular subject for this contest, got lots of pics, and took some ‘incidentals’ of other subjects while out. Got the ‘perfect’ picture for this contest from the incidentals (completely unplanned), and the ‘perfect’ picture for an upcoming hoppered theme from the subject I was shooting for this one (ditto). Funnay how photographs turn out sometimes, suggesting things you weren’t even going for.
