I’m absolutely thrilled and somewhat shocked–there were some really outstanding shots this week that I thought would overtake me. I know other’s have had a 1st/2nd combo–how common is that? Anyone gotten 1-2-3 before (U-Man, I’d bet)? One must have something to which to aspire. 😉

Curious, I think you’re right; I do have shots of the bus, though it’s not your typical yellow, it was blue; it’s one of the potentials for ‘abandoned by people’. What’cha convert them into? It was a neat old thing; but I had to clean the outside back window to get a good shot inside.

I do too, it is (was) my 3rd highest ranked picture–until this contest (if my ranks hold out.)

It was taken facing roughly North at around 3pm on 1/23, so surely not Venus and I did a quick look – ISS is visible in the early morning here so that’s doubtful. I dunno. I can look at the full-scale shot again this evening but I doubt there’ll be anything discernible.

Checking the history, it passed on the 23rd, but in the south, and wrong time. Would be interested in what it was, though. Maybe lens flare, but awefully sharp, if so. Ideas, anyone?

Oh, and I forgot, here’s the pic of the full rainbow panoramic, a few minutes after Casper gave up the ghostly fascade:

Gives a good idea how dark the skies were, excepting Casper, at least.

I promised myself I’d go to bed 12 hours into the voting. ‘cha right–like that’s gonna happen! I’m supposed to sleep now? I was expecting the usual–everyone’s shots blowing mine out of the water. And…a lot are. I’ll never figure out these voters. It’s still early, and I see climbers. I’m shooting for a 3rd place–that’s the only top ten spot I’ve yet to get. I’ve already bested a few of my personal stats–why be greedy?

Much obliged Pope. Given my ‘fail’ last week, it’s warms my belly to be faring considerably better. We can thank my upstairs neighbor for the rainbow puke. She pounded on my floor to get me outside and said ‘grab your camera for this!’. I did, and about 10 minutes in the cloud just morphed into Casper. I have a nice panoramic of the whole scene; the rainbow, excepting the whiteness of Casper bleaching it out, was complete.

There’s some really nice entries this week (I just love weather pictures.) I’m kinda dissappointed that a couple that I REALLY like only have one vote thus far (but I haven’t voted–and it’s way early yet.) They include Zero‘s ‘Let it snow’ (effective use of blur), mason‘s raindrops on a window at 500mph (great color), Uranus‘s kid in the snow (good use of depth), and Lovesandwich‘s fog on the ocean (nice proportions.)

SilverStag, I’ve found twice now that I can lump a single photo excurtion to suit several themes. For my outing this weekend, I wrote a list of all the scheduled, hoppered, and had-the-votes-just-not-documented themes, and made notes as to which ones might go with which contests. At home, I made a ‘future fark’ file and threw copies into it, with original Canon numbering (so I could find the raw stuff later). There must be at least 50 shots that potentially will wind up in contests eventually–unless of course I take bettar. 12 hours well spent, and of course I had fun on the outing, when I had the time to do so.

I did, actually. I tried to not have anything too bright, or too dark, in particular. Though I can shoot in monochrome, I figure in a ‘real’ camera, you have to see in color, so I shot in color and converted after. That lead to some ‘fails’, but also taught me some things. My favorite, by far, is the truck with the tires; the one at ISO 800 came out particularly deliciously grainy, IMO, and I may post process that to look even more so at some point.

I too like the puking rainbow. Lots of snow in this one. Wonder how that’s going to affect Old Man Winter?

Hopefully, no one will have a single shot of white fluffy cold stuff at all, then I might have a chance with my (not yet taken but contemplated) entries. 😆
