ParticipantYeah, orionid, those sculptures are completely awesome.
^what she said^
I’m totally bummed about results thus far; it’s my worst showing in four months, thus far. 🙁
I guess it’s good to get humbled occasionally, but on the contest I suggested? Piffle.

ParticipantNot disappointed at the quality, mind utes, just the quantity. But…it’s early. I do wish I was faring better; I’ve been spoiled by at least one pic doing well out of the gate these past few weeks…doesn’t look to happen this week, though. Such is life. I still like my pics (except the birdleaf one; kicking myself for breaking that before I got a better shot of it.

ParticipantI’m a bit disappointed by the turnout thus far. It got +1’d pretty quickly, thought it would do better.

ParticipantWould a picture of a limestone pavement count? You know, clints and grykes? Not sure about forking, but the clints are split by the grykes.
I’m so totally not understanding any of this, but if there’s splitting involved, it sounds like it would be fair game.
What? You mean you’ve never been taken on a geography field trip in the middle of winter to the top of the freezing Yorkshire Dales to look at limestone pavements and glacial erosion!?
You haven’t lived!Well, it does split…
Honestly, I was looking more for the forking trees, roads, etc, but with the theme descript as it is, I suppose it would pass. BUT–do you think it will be envotenated by the teeming masses? I’m not so sure about that, esp. given the bulk of other entries.

ParticipantMopsy‘s pitchforks are visually delicious.
/I also want the roast recipe.
off to a good start!

ParticipantYou hang out in some….uhmmm….interesting places! From what I’ve just looked at in this discussion, it seems this will be a very loose interpretation of the theme. Go for it.
Let no one say they can’t call me loose!
/wait. That came out wrong…

http://fossilspringsaz.com/pics/2010/sep/15/greenwebsml.jpgDecided I had enough nature, might use the 2nd for ‘Classic Green’ (if I can’t do any better).

Participantdude 🙁 I thought I was being original when I thought of that on Monday for my 3rd pic. ahhhh well
Hey, you never know–yours might be the only one.
Ugh. I was going to post a photo of a two-headed snake at the NOLA zoo, but all of my photos are totally out of focus. 🙁
I know the feeling. I was stuck for a third when I found what became one of my entries of a leaf that looks like a bird in flight. I still had the leaf, and was going to compose this morning for better lighting and background–and I crushed the leaf. Oh well. I’m using the shot anyway as it’s better than whatever else I had going.

ParticipantDoes this count as splitting? http://www.flickr.com/photos/21629306@N00/3767615518/in/set-72157621743199567/
How about my dancer? http://www.flickr.com/photos/21629306@N00/4866138770/“If it splits, it fits”. So it fits. But from a voting perspective, I think the leg kick will do better.

ParticipantOh, and congrats!

ParticipantI will ask my aunt; she gets them from some online site, and has sold a number of her prints; as I recall she is very impressed with the service.

ParticipantFood porn is coming up with “Just Desserts”, sinfully delicious! But no…this one, not so much. Though if I don’t see at least one Dallas Cheerleader doing the splits, I’ll be disappointed. Whether she’ll be wearing panties or not…I cannot say.

ParticipantThat’s an excellent article, Curious. It tells me I’m doing okay with my photography–even pushing some limits now and again.
It’s very true about them wafers that the sensors are made upon. My job, IRL, is making computer wafers (I work in the lithography and ion implantation areas.) We don’t make sensors, but the principle is the same. Some of our wafers contain many 1000’s of chips on each one (8″ wafer, chips 1.5 x 2 mm, over 8K chips once you discount scribe lines between them), and they can ‘retail’ for as little as 30-50 cents–and it takes 30-40 days to create the chips, passing through hundreds of steps and 140 people and a ton of equipment that can cost millions to purchase and thousands to operate. We can make money on that because we’re producing them in lots of 25 wafers each. I often carry a box of product that will sell for over $100K, with chips that will sell for under a buck each.

ParticipantI’m kind of in the same frame of mind as olavf on this one; it’s not that I really object to signs with the word ‘fork’ in them, but I don’t think they’d fare well in the contest. If you’d like to use them, you can. The market sign has forking in the boat and in the waves, though, and the last two would certainly fit.

ParticipantThat’s not just Alaska, you can tromp around in the desert or the plains by any sliver of moon as if it were late twilight. Most people just never spend enough time in the dark to get adapted.
I HATE LP. Turn the damn light off and learn to see. 😉
This is true, but I keep a black light pointed at the ground anyway (one of them pocket keychain ones); damned scorpions bother me some (tarantulas not so much.)
