Participanthey, just wondering if this photo is ok for FT…
If there’s a definition of comfort, in my mind, this is it. 😉

I got a Holga for Christmas! It came with a roll of electrical tape to fix light leaks 😉
Just in time!

ParticipantYou said that you have trouble getting the whole subject in focus… Generally, in a case like a portrait or a situation where you have something in the foreground and some extraneous detail in the background, you are better off using a shallower DOF, like happened in your dog photo. Your dog has a great face, and the fact that the hindquarters are out of focus moves attention to the face.
It can be a challenge getting the focal plane where you want it, for sure, but it generally makes for a more technically pleasing photo. Extremely shallow DOF can give you what the Japanese (and mostly everyone else) call ‘bokeh,’ where you get circles in the background that give artistic flair to the photo.
There’s an example of extremely shallow DOF… I actually took this at F/1.8 but with the lens on the camera backwards (for macro goodness) and had to focus manually by moving the camera away and toward the subject.[/img]

ParticipantFor cross-processing goodness in Photoshop, there are many tutorials, but this one includes an action to do it for ya…

ParticipantIs it so hard to have a specific (reasonable) time frame to automagically greenlight to? Really?
Is 12:01 AM fair?
In other news, re: SaintDiluted‘s “Ken gets Forked!”: Ladies and gents, the anatomy of a repeat[?]
*I remember, chakalakasp, we’re not supposed to make assumptions — it’s just that this image is so good in so many ways (Barbie’s hair helps) it seems oh so obvious…*
Hard to tell if this is tongue-in-cheek or not – my sarcasm detector is on the fritz. It is the use of “anatomy” that makes me think there’s a funny in there.
I don’t think it is a repeat. SaintDiluted‘s portfolio doesn’t have it twice, and there’s no missing thumbnails. That said, the Scarlet R ain’t up so I don’t know if the URL was reused.
This confused me as well, I think he meant a repeat win… not that I used the photo again. I’ve never taken a picture of a Barbie before last night anyway.
In any case, mikemikeb: No more calling the winner before the fat lady sings! You seem to be jinxing us! 😉

ParticipantI suspect if they did some kind of analysis, they’d find we bring people into the TF fold at a pretty good rate.
“analysis”, wait, what? Did someone say analysis?
and point to me as someone who came into TF because of Farktography.

Participanthehe… I don’t know as I’m an expert in this area.. I use Photomatix to make HDRs. The reason that photoshop gets upset is that when you change exposure and save the images again, the EXIF information no longer has an exposure value for photoshop to work with. Photomatix takes it’s best guess as to what the exposure values are when you tell it to make an HDR.
You could probably use an EXIF editor to add the EV into the image.. you might try that.

ParticipantThanks for the congrats!
I didn’t think I was going to be able to hold my own in this one.. imagine my surprise when I logged on this morning to find my photo in the lead!
Voting is still open though.. and anything could happen with artic_fun’s photo, so I won’t say I won this one til it’s all over but the cryin’ 😉
This is probably my most successful HDR attempt yet… it’s not quite as realistic as some would hope, I guess, but I like the effect, and after all is said and done, it’s whether your photos make you happy that matters most.

ParticipantMan, that romp might be a little awkward due to size differences. 😉
We must see the pics! 😈
Might be something like this:
