ParticipantLike the man above said, malls are private property and they can ban photography in them. Why they would is beyond me, but it’s just one more reason to stay out of malls.

Participantnot to speak for U-man, but the “that’s an ugly aspect” never really happens for me. It’s just what catches my eye or that I find interesting.

ParticipantWell no, of course not. There are other contests that include things that don’t occur where I live, and I’m cool with that. It won’t be the first time I go outside the box a bit.

ParticipantThere’s no fair here at all without at least a ferry ride and an overnight stay. And that’s a pretty damned sad one.
I was planning on buying a few HO scale toy fairground pieces to make a diorama, but won’t have time for that. Guess I’m out, too, unless I can think of something.

ParticipantYou’re going to need something like a 180mm or longer lens to get that kind of working distance. I don’t know how that translates to the olympus 4/3rds land, but that’s a pretty long lens. (And comes with its whole other group of problems, shooting-wise. My 180mm macro drives me nuts). Your best bet might be to get a nice telephoto and look for macro filters that lower the minimum focusing distance.

ParticipantMuseums, too would be another place to find a collection.

Participantif you can find a gift store that would let you shoot inside, you might be able to come up with something.

ParticipantDefinitely. Though I was disappointed to find out your entry wasn’t, in fact, the world’s coolest roller-coaster.
I broke the 4,000 total votes barrier this week!

ParticipantIf flickr wasn’t blocked at my work, I would use that.
I know ftp is insecure, but I just use it to batch transfer files to my website. I don’t think there’s a lot of harm there.

Participantu-man, I’d highly suggest getting your own hosting. I use 1and1.com hosting and have a business package that lets me have like 5 domain names, what amounts to unlimited transfer rates, ftp access, I host a couple of forums, I host my website and one other, etc, and I pay $10 a month. It’s so troublefree it’s just amazing.

ParticipantI’ll bet your house is all tidy.
hardly 🙂 Not with 8 grand kids running around periodically.
But what I find hard to believe is that I am ahead of you in the ‘most votes recently’ category. That’s inconceivable, since your stuff is usually so much better (or at least popular) than mine.
That does just feel—-broken, somehow.
Nah, I’ve not been running very crowd-favorite lately.

ParticipantI bought a 50 f/1.8, along with my other lenses and was less than thrilled. I don’t care if I only paid $85 for it, I shouldn’t have had to pay more than $35 for it. It had all the build quality of a Holga with none of the charm. I was seriously underwhelmed. Maybe I got a bad copy, but compared to a 85mm f/1.8, it wasn’t in the same ballpark. I have a $5 manual focus 50mm f/1.4 Yaschica lens that doesn’t stop down that I use instead, and I love the hell out of it.
