Completely unrelated: Girl impersonating the Shinkansen

Stylistically, their use of a single, super wide angle prime lens is interesting… I guess, you know, to make it somewhat relevant to anything.

I guess my question is: “Is there really a difference between bad photos for effect and genuinely bad photos?”

Yes, see every complaint about modern painting and sculpture since 1920.

There isn’t much headway to be made in classically good photography. Every newspaper in the country has at least one photograph so beautifully done you could frame it, every week.

If you want to innovate that means doing something other than capturing a moment or experience beautifully, so the attention goes elsewhere, commenting on that experience while it happens, setting a way for people to look at that experience different from how it would appear if shot beautifully, forcing your audience to process it differently than they’re used to, anything like that.

We’re used to glamorous, black tie celebrity events to have glamorous, beautiful photography. If you shoot that like a jackass in a bar with a pocket camera, you make people look at it from that perspective. These guys aren’t any different than your average drunk jackasses at a party. It does feel more personal, you do feel “hey, why am I looking at pictures of a party where I don’t know anyone?” just like you would if I posted pictures of my cousin’s last birthday party. All that thought and emotion or whatever is the art.

Grab a kid, tell him he’s getting a motorcycle, then tell him it’s from the make a wish foundation,.. and.. well, you know…
Then tell him you’re just kidding and laugh maniacally. There are your three shots, shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes.

Congrats on making out okay. Thanks for not posting pictures (though an impromptu photo session when the parade of med noobs come to gawk is something I’ve wanted for a while. Instead of just sitting there as a bunch of fresh-faced eager beavers ooh, ahh and wretch, you could pose for pictures with them, do a thumbs up or peace sign or whatever).

I hope this is the last of your troubles.

Thanks everybody. I think I came off making things sound more serious than they are, everything’s okay. I’m smashing my teeth to look for implants, trying to convince doctors my veins were replaced with rubber hose or anything like that.

U-Man, do you think you could write a prescription for L-lenses? I have pretty good insurance, they haven’t turned anything down yet.

Where the heck have you been hiding? 🙂

I went from internet quirky to serious mental illness, but I’m working my way back.

Keep your old prescription bottles, fill them with capsules full of sugar or whey protein or whatever (purebulk.com is awesome), keep it in your camera bag.

Then, when someone hassles you, start muttering to yourself, look them in the eye for a bit like you don’t think they can see or hear you, keep muttering, pour some pills into your mouth straight from the bottle, chew, exhale some sugar/whey/whatever in an angry sigh, cough, have something to drink, then get back to photographing while muttering.

You’ll have saved yourself a conversation and gotten a bit of nutrition too.
They also make caffeine snuff now, if you think snorting something would work better in your area.

Hey Canon, this is a known issue.

They ought to come with a “some reassembly required” warning.

    How about B4U-ACT?
It’s vaguely photography and internet related, and it’s for a group of people I think we’re all profoundly sympathetic to. I’m sure the late Garry Gross would approve.

At this point, just slap them in the face and stare at them in a way that lets them know if do anything but apologize then hide for the next 12 hours you’ll beat them with looped up coaxial cable. That’s what my Mom would do!

Besides, even if their concerns were understated, big farking deal. Getting it done at all is 99.99% of it.

Which reminds me, thanks again Elsinore, Zeke and schnee for working your asses off making and keeping stuff nice.

She makes you buy the brown or clear stuff in bottles that stings when your lips are cracked?
Sorry man, but that’s just part of being an adult. Use some lip balm.
