ParticipantMy thought process was fairs of the cotton candy, rides on trailers/bright lights/carnival games variety. Places where you can spend insane amounts of money trying to win cheaply made stuffed animals playing crooked games. What did the theme suggest to you?
It suggested that when I have kids I do a better job of exposing them to this stuff than my parents did, and the slightest hint that maybe this kind of thing doesn’t happen in Chicago proper. Then it starting singing about parsley and some other crap and hanging out with guys with swords and flagons.

ParticipantWhat about music/cultural fairs/festivals?

ParticipantAck, I overslept and don’t have time to make apple pie.

ParticipantThere’s a lot more to be said for being fun than being good.
This seems like a fun idea though, even if we don’t end up bringing the rest of the internet to its knees. How about we stake out another contest to make sure we understand their crazy, foreign rules, and the spirit/nature of their contests, talk/plot things out here (so we don’t end up looking like a bunch of mean-spirited, juvenile jerks who fail at the internet and also fail at photography), then post more or less en masse (as appropriate)?
First impressions are lasting impressions, after all.
Then we punch their websites in the stomach, give them wedgies and take their lunch money.(I just want to punch a website.)

ParticipantI’ll take that as a “No. Shut up! I wish you were on fire right now!”

Does that fit the theme?

ParticipantKeep going SilverStag. When they’re all blind, we split the cameras 50-50.
staplermofo
ParticipantAnd they’re only going to make better cameras as time goes on.
staplermofo
ParticipantI’d like to see that!
*plays bawdy jazz, whoops and cat calls at SilverStag*

ParticipantYou know, I’ve heard that several times over the last couple years and I (still) refuse to really contemplate that idea because I cannot see any possible benefits that might result from that line of thought.
There is only one benefit, but it is huge.
College is your chance to do all the stuff you want memories of doing, but don’t want people thinking you’ll do ever again.
You can do almost anything without lasting damage to your post-graduation reputation. For example:
I turned purell into a more or less drinkable liquor. (scary alcoholic)

I turned purell into a more or less drinkable liquor when I was in college. (lovable scamp)staplermofo
ParticipantCanon already makes a bunch of nice lenses I can’t afford.
This is nice in the same way that it’s nice they are still several companies developing better and better treatments for malaria. Now, that fancy pants Sub Wavelength structure Coating is interesting. That’s the kind of technology that could trickle into my price range.

ParticipantTopless midget wrestling is still A-OK in Chicago.

ParticipantIf it’s just hands only, you might be able to talk him into springing for a tiny, foolproof, light box. They’re shockingly cheap, easy to store, and sounds like it would solve all of the problems in one fell swoop (because then you could use a custom white balance that would be easily reproducible for the follow up shots.)
*I might be wrong about this*Plus, it’s always fun to tell people to put their hands in the box, and, when they say it’s hot, start reciting lines from the Gom Jabbar part of Dune.
*I am definitely right about this* -
