ParticipantIt is a tradition from the darker age of Fark (when Foobies links ran wild on the front page and no set schedule for Farktography links appearing – dark times indeed!).
The voting on contests didn’t end about 72 hours after it was posted like it does now, it would stay enabled for a couple of weeks. So instead of having everyone waiting around forever to find a winner, it was decided that whoever was winning after about 48 hours was declared the winner (being about the time it dropped off the front page). Now we can probably wait the extra day or two for voting to close before calling the contest but I think it is nice having someone put in a comment acknowledging the winner and reminding everyone of next weeks contest.
ParticipantYou only get one vote per account. As Els said earlier, it was more to get noticed when we didn’t have a set posting time. It looks like most people aren’t voting these days though (Highest voted links (not sure if it only works for total farkers)) as we are currently third and five votes would get you in the top 10.

THAT’S LAMARR!ParticipantI come from a great lineage of Swamp’s. My grandpa used to live in an area called Black Swamp, from that he got the nickname “Swampy”. That got passed onto my Dad (even though we didn’t live at Black Swamp anymore) and then passed onto me and my brothers. To avoid confusion at the football club, I got nicknamed “Swampa” instead. One brother got the family nickname and the other took “Swampdogg”
I originally registered Swampa on fark but I forgot the password and couldn’t find a get password link at the time so I just created my current Swampa2 account.

I realised I have never been inside the Opera House, only taken a brazillion photos of the outside.

I remember the same thing happening when Schnee started the active farktographers page/labels with the different rankings based on participation. Once everyone knew how it was being calculated then it wasn’t a problem, just suddenly finding a label on their details one day caused some people to wonder what they had done wrong/right.

But that requires that I actually pay attention to what is upcoming instead of just freaking out before each contest.

ParticipantHow visible do the stairs have to be? I have this image of a stair well but it isn’t as obvious that there are stairs unless you really look at the image, would it still be ok?
