National Geographic has started a photo contest. They have a different theme starting the 15th of the month and open to the first 5000 photos. One or two images will be published in the print magazine and an additional three images will be chosen for publication online. How cool would it be to be published in National Geographic mag?

How cool is this contest? Thanks for the link – I’m in!

I just thought I’d pop in and say hello. Hello! It’s weird being back after so long. It almost feels like walking back into class after being out with Mono for 8 weeks.

I missed you guys! Dial up/no internet is no way to live.

Gone a month and still no tag! 👿 Seriously what gives? Is it really that hard to add a tag? I see they have added a tag for fark publicity…

I’m gonna stop now. I have been home for almost 5 days and I still have to finish unpacking…

sorry to hear about the hangover 😉

Welcome back! You were missed. 😀

Not sure how long I can get away with being a total newbie.

I’m not much of an artsy person, my next move would probably be good to get a dictionary of artsy or artsy-like terms. When I think “still life” I think of a picture/painting of a bowl of fruit. Looked at the submissions before mine and realized still life can be pretty much anything?

I was gonna throw all our old cell phones (and we got a bunch) in a fruit bowl and take pics of that, but figured for a first-time, and a subject I couldn’t quite wrap my mind around, I wung it and saved the great inspiration for a future contest where I have a better idea of what’s expected and/or what’s proper.

Oops, I meant to reply to this last week. I still wish I had put a better decription up for the theme.

It’s a little late now but I would have told you to go with your gut; I think your cell phones in a bowl would have been a great take on the theme 🙂 . I didn’t realize until I actually sat down to take my photos of how many ways the theme could have been interpreted.

I thought it all turned out fabulous in the end though.

Veruca, if I read it right, KM and Sony will service the cameras. I’d grab some lenses if I were you. That stuff will be going cheap.

I’ve been following some ebay auctions this week and stuff is still being traded pretty well and regularly. Perhaps the closer we get toward the buyout and people start jumping ship? I’m not so worried – I know Sony has some questionable business practices but they also have some good products.

It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
PS – If you see a 50mm 1.4 going cheap let me know!

Does your flash drive show up as an extra system drive when you plug the camera into the computer? I run Windows (forgive me) and after I plug the camera in I get a removable drive that shows up in explorer. Then I manually grab the files and move them to my desktop to sort.

I’m not sure if OS X works the same way or not.

    Hi ya’ll

I’m checking back into this project. I’d like to state the oblivious and recommend, since you’re getting a very good response for this, that Veruca be the Pacific Northwest rep. on this. I said stating the oblivious ’cause I ain’t done nothing to help and Veruca has always been in it. So I bow to the TFers. I’m still lookin’ forward to seein’ the results. I know, by the talent shown in Farktography any Photoshops, that it’s gonna be great!

Who are you, masked guest? Had you signed up to participate before? We still have shots left on the camera 🙂

I was going to say I went with in my general vicinity, not just on my desk…but then rereading the description I wonder if I’m off the mark.

?Geekosphere? is a term used to describe the area in the immediate vicinity around your computer. Most people personalize this zone with various cultural objects that have significant meaning to them. [/i]

For online prints, I use MPIX.com. Their metallic paper is incredible — it’s like the old Fujichrome.

Heck, if you don’t believe me, run five 8X10s through them. It’ll be like $14 after shipping. You’ll never print anywhere else. 🙂

I’m sending off the order when i get home tonight and upload a couple more prints. Thanks for the tip.

I may not know what I like but I do know I don’t like Mystic. I ordered an 11×14 from them and it came back with white streaks running throughout the print. Sent the same original through Snapfish and it came out great.

I am really interested in the metallic paper though, hmmm.

Thanks for all the responses. 😉

here’s some pics i just took of my house – to say we’ve had some snow this winter would be a bit of an understatement, i think. 😮

    Very impressive 😛

Description: pictures of snow and or ice or both
Thanks to DrewsMom & kmmontandon for this week’s theme.

you’d think with all the snow we’ve gotten this year so far (almost 300 inches) that i’d have more pictures of it.

but nope. all except two were taken within the last 3 days.

That’s kind of funny considering 😛
Mine were taken in a 3-day span; two from the weekend we went to the mountains to play in the snow and one from the weekend it snowed at my house.
I envy you Monkey, I wish it would snow here just a little more often.

They’re pretty much standard filter sizes, and fit standard filter threads (my set of Hoya lenses are about 20 years old) so you can use them on any lens with the same filter diameter (unless you use step rings, but that’s a different topic)

For 55 mm you’d by this set:

    Thanks 😀
