I object that he broke into my house while I was watching “Ow! My Balls!”

Well… I was out of Brawndo.

As indicated above, two of mine have “creative” borders, so I’m hoping they’re allowed. The idea was to enhance the photos not to distract from them. I posted a link to an example a couple pages back.

A – Awesome! and Good Luck!

    B – What ennui said:

In the end, if you can’t code and you want the full flash stunning website, you are going to have to hire a designer and build it.

may be true… but the first question is “What is the website supposed to do?”

If you’re trying to sell prints of images, there’s some various models that might be worth investigating that will get you up and running until you can hire some code monkey to help you be more “self-contained” including using eBay or Amazon (or some other similar site) for the sales function. I’m not sure what the DeviantArt model is, or how much you’d get from that, but that’s another place. Others have already mentioned other sites.

If you’re trying to get commission work (wedding, architectural, whatever) all you really need in a good on-line portfolio and contact info, yes? There should be plenty of DIY webhosts and tools out there that’ll get you there.

Mind you, I’m just brainstorming here from an outsider’s perspective. I haven’t done any of this stuff, so you can feel free to just ignore everything I said above except the first question:
“What is the website supposed to do?”

My problem is getting the triptych to come together on Photoshop.

FIRST – Click “New” and make a new empty image 2000x2000px
    …
SEVENTH – Use “Save For Web” to resize to Fark size before uploading.

I expect to be using Power Point and “save as” .jpg . It’s what I’ve got available. And it’s from Microsoft Office, so you know it’s got to be easy enough for a field grade staff officer to figure out.

    A) MS Paint comes on every Windows PC
    B) PortableAPPs.com has GIMP as a portable you can run from the desktop to a flashdrive without “installing”

    Just sayin’

    I like the idea, but I wonder…

If we’re in this more for the fun than the profits, why not set up a separate thread/forum specifically for this purpose? Let’s say I see a shot of staplermofo‘s that I think “That would be a PERFECT gift for my _________!” That forum would be the clearing house.

I started to toss out a suggestion for how it would work, but that became confusing and tedious.

My point is that unlike a deck of cards (from the Misfit site) a photo purchase for the wall is a bit more personal, and just because one won a contest doesn’t mean it would be bought.

What about a calendar? Slightly less “personal” and permanent, allows for more finalists, and we can do it annually.

Or I’m talking out of my ass…

    Meh..I just take pictures.

Heh, I really get into the “philosophy” of photography. It is an unhealthy associations from love of poetry. You think THIS is a pedantic argument here, get a group of poets in one room and then get THEM started on the various schools, movements, styles and variations of poetry. People think poets are all soft and squishy, mention Beat Poets in the wrong group and they WILL CUT YOU. 😛

I think this is true of most arts.

I’ve got a book on Salvador Dali that I can’t read for the pretentious BS. I keep it for the pretty pictures.

I’m having no trouble with what my three parts should look like. I have two subjects that I think could be fairly good. My problem is getting the triptych to come together on Photoshop. Am I just damn stupid or what? I have printed out 2 websites and viewed a couple of tutorial videos and I still don’t get it. I have done HDR and stitched panoramas without much difficulty. What the h*ll is wrong with me that I can’t do this. I have Adobe Photoshop 2.

FIRST – Click “New” and make a new empty image 2000x2000px
SECOND – Open the folder you’ve got your shots in
THIRD – Drag the three images into Phosotshop
FOURTH – Copy the sections you want in the triptych (Ctrl-A if you want the entire image)
FIFTH – Resize each layer as you insert into the 2000x2000px image and arrange into your triptych.
SIXTH – Once you get an arrangement you like use the Crop tool to get the rectangular shape that best fits your layout.
SEVENTH – Use “Save For Web” to resize to Fark size before uploading.

    Hope this helps.

I wanted triptychs that made a whole from three parts. Or a whole from two parts and a wider angle view of the whole subject.

This was my interpretation, as well, and impacted my shooting. The two sets of people I’ve got were shot specifically for this theme. The tree I shot was an archive dive to replace the tree I shot that just didn’t work. The tree triptych also fits your theme.

To avoid too much angst and to avoid too much moderators having to moderate, I agree that a more liberal interpretation will be necessary.

Where I was/am looking for leniency (in my case) is the design. Do they have to be stacked or side-by-side, or can I add some creativity to it? The photoshopper wants to have some fun with the design.

Like last week’s government buildings, the last minute stress probably will be a tempest in a teacup and the voters will have the final say.

I have 2 like this one:

    http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6092/6366232033_fc798a34c8_z.jpg

The reason I post it and mention it is that the background is a 4th pic of the same subject. It’s blurry (20px gaussian blur), but I like the effect. Is it kosher?

For the other one, I blurred and lightened it as well.

If not kosher I’ve got time to re-do, but I didn’t save as .psd

    Thanx for your input

Picture worth a thousand words examples –

Should we allow this? – http://www.flickr.com/photos/eddmun/454335362/lightbox/

    No (not diverse enough)

Or try to aim at this and delete the three pose entries? –
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/x_therumor/6193109777/lightbox/

    Yes

But then again…what about THIS? http://www.flickr.com/photos/17665703@N03/6141189546/lightbox/

    Yes (diversity)

I’m all for a loose interpretation, but that first one just isn’t enough… reminds me of the Playboy Interview photos.

Some of my attempts (plants, dogs) are not like your second example, but others are closer (an accordion player at the public market).

    But that’s just me.

Ok – if you don’t see me by Thursday morning – sling those I posted out there lol.

It says access http://www.blueridgerentals.com/result_2.asp?table=Rental&id=358 but we’ll see. And thank you so much.

It’s a +/-50 minute ride home from college. If I don’t see you by 10 Eastern, I’ll OBO. Not planning on getting up too early on Thursday. It’s my wife’s first day off in a while; wink, wink nudge nudge.

I’m leaving tuesday and hope I have internet wednesday O_O.

For you, and anyone else headed out for Turkey Day and questionable regarding internet access…

a kind Farktographer (but not Farktographer) with Drew’s new system gifted me a month of TF, so I’ll be able to OBO anybody who needs it. College is Wednesday nights this semester, and class usually ends in the 8:00 hour (actually it has to… class officially ends at 9) so I bring my laptop, and post as soon as I dismiss. It’s only a couple more minutes to do an OBO.

Kinda my way of paying the community back for one person’s kindness. PM me, or just paste it in the thread like somebody did last week. I’ll cover everybody who asks/needs.

    Given my personal disdain for:
    Turkey
    Yams
    Mashed potatoes
    Pumpkin Pie
    Cranberry anything but juice

and spending any time in the same zip code as my brother

Thanksgiving is a pain in the butt.
If only my mom wasn’t hosting an early one at her place on Sunday… I’d be sooooo much happier. I’ll be bringing my usual baked pasta so I’ve got something to eat besides stuffing. Thanksgiving is good for football and a long weekend.

I have been told that I am learning the family cooking traditions this year :/ I would rather be watching football.

Have you considered screwing some things up in the kitchen as soon as you get started and/or showing up drunk and yelling FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!! at people.

    It’s not too late to
    a) explain that football IS a tradition, you’ve started your own family dammit!
    and/or
    b) get a small TV to put in the kitchen, &/or make sure whatever tasks you do put you in position to watch the tube

no need to screw things up, just go all passive-aggressive, thus pressing home the point that you and your husband would rather be snuggled on the couch eating frozen pizza than miss a couple big games
