ParticipantSo if it’s a store front, do windows have to be shown or is the sign out front or on the building okay?
God, I hope so… that describes my 3rd image!
(I have a B if necessary, but I’d rather this one… when I converted to B&W it came out exactly as I had it in my head when I shot it)Yugoboy
ParticipantJust a conversation starter… but…
Given that the next week’s theme is the link each week, why not allow tweaks to themes until 8 pm eastern Wednesday BEFORE the contest? A number (most?) of people will be done shooting as of “the last minute” as well as done getting it ready and posting it to their Flickr/whatever account…
As noted elsewhere, the number of viewers to these forums versus weekly posters is small, so most aren’t privy to the changes. As far as I’m concerned, I’m ready and I stand on my images or not, but some people may be irked regarding fairness.
Or I’m talking out of my ass.

ParticipantI definitely feel having a presence is important in the long-term.
I’m not sure I’ve become a terrifically better photographer, but just being around every week has had, I think, an impact on the voting a bit. Only a bit, but nevertheless, a bit. It’s also not hard to make a splash in the Photoshop contests, and then stick around awhile. Some people get votes “because”.
Presence isn’t everything, but it’s a start. If/when I finally win a Farktography contest, it’ll be on merits, but trending into the top half of the voting is (in part) a result of presence.
Or I’m full of crap. It’s way possible.

ParticipantThe second image made me physically aroused. The change was that dramatic!
😳
Where’s that sarcasm font, anyway?December 5, 2011 at 5:07 pm in reply to: 12-28-11 – Farktography Classic: B-Sides and Unreleased Trac #42983Yugoboy
ParticipantThanx for the clarity. I’ll be careful of what I use.

ParticipantQuery:
Having only really gotten serious about this mid-year, may I go back to themes in the first few months to see if I’ve got any good images, or am I limited to contests I entered?Second Query:
While I know no one can actually tell one way or the other, is it kosher (if I’m maintaining strict adherence to rules) to use shots taken AFTER a contest that fit a previous contest? (For example, I’m thinking of a shot of stairs I got in Italy that I could not submit because the stairs contest either was that week or a few weeks before)Whatever the answers, I’ll be a good Yugoboy.

ParticipantCongrats to orionid on the individual win, to U-Man on the combined win, and to fluffybunny on his/her first top ten. The Weekly Reports post has been updated with the latest stats.
Thanks CISS, btw that would be a “his”, guess I’m not much of a profile person.
Not for nuthin’, but “fluffybunny” doesn’t exactly scream testosterone junkie.
NTTATTWTT
My best friends… yadda yadda yadda…Not a criticism. Just an observation.

ParticipantUnlike last week (which after seeing some others’ entries I now realize I had WAY more in my archive than I thought) I’m burdened with choice on this one, and I even stopped on the way home last night to get some night shots of a rural gas station glowing all alone in the night.
The one that I really really want to use, however, I’m going to be using in SOOC, and I didn’t take 2 shots of it, so 🙁

ParticipantI’m fairly certain you don’t know the answer, but…
When you upload will you at least have the opportunity to look at the pix first?
I’m thinking that you could have the Portable version of Irfanview loaded on a flash drive, and then if you need to do a batch fix for a yellowish hue or something you can do that before permanently being known as the Lady with the Yellow pix.
Alternatively, have you access to a netbook or iPad to do this on your own prior to the upload? Or you could (in the pre-show time) do a few sample shots and then be able to look at them in a larger format than that tiny screen on your camera.
Obviously, I don’t have much advice on the shooting part, but for the software, I’m on it.

ParticipantHmmm…I wonder if I can make the flamethrowers work on Fifi Mk.II.
I dunno. But I bet I can make the flamethrowers work on 5d Mk II.
Working on that right now.
Sweet.
Got one. Not perfect, but it works.
Don’t mind me. I’ll be in the corner crying on the cat.
Not this shit again…
FWIW – some archive diving and remembering a lucky find a couple months ago and I got some pics. My first entry’s from years and years ago, but it fits…
Doubting where I’ll end up in the voting, but at least I got something for this week.

ParticipantThat’s going to include a few instances of multiple IPs per person due to the same person viewing from multiple devices, but that’s still somewhere around TWO THOUSAND people that viewed the contest. That’s nowhere near even 1 vote per viewer.
Those of us in the Photoshop side of Fark have been dealing with this for a long long time. There’s no way to “make them vote.” Just have to assume the voting is a statistically accurate random sampling.

ParticipantI got nuthin for this. I mean, I got D&D books, and a character sheet, and the b-sides from thar be dragons, and boxes of magic cards, and…….
But I got nuthin for a photo.
I got an ass-load of Photoshopped dragons in my past, but all my D&D stuff is long gone, haven’t seen a dungeon lately, and no dragons not on paper…
I’m in the same boat, bud.
Gonna have to stretch a few things to make this work (a re-created jail from Colonial Williamsburg is relatively medieval in appearance, and I’ve got a couple dragon shirts, and a hat…) we’ll see what we can come up with… maybe nuthin’

ParticipantKodak is going out of business I heard, but they also probably offer it.
As a resident of Kodak’s hometown, please let me assure you they have made NO public announcements, nor do they have any intention of doing any such thing. It’s a rumor based on a mis-reading of a press release.
If people keep saying it, it may come true, however, so please stop. The economy here’s tenuous enough.

ParticipantA final option is to design your own calendar (many programs offer that option, and there’s some freeware ones, too) and take it to Kinko’s or someplace similar.
The benefits there include total control over design, and the ability to approve/disapprove print quality prior to purchase.

ParticipantYou might check out your local major chain supermarket. Not the Piggle Wiggly or the Big M, but the Giant, the Ingles, the Wegmans, or whatever’s near you. They’re more likely to have a Kodak kiosk than Wally World. The quality will be better. The price only a little higher, but the quality will be better.
Also, ’tis the season to go malling. There may be a kiosk at a local mall that will do it. Look for the one that’ll make a mug with your picture on it.
