If gas suddenly dropped to sub-$2 I could afford the trip. I’m not just upstate (apparently north of Rye is upstate), I’m in western NY… it’d be over $100 in gas just to get there and back. I’ll have to decline, unfortunately.

Enjoy yourselves. Keep me in mind for future jaunts (just got back from Adirondacks, and am going to be working for 5 weeks until parent-provided Italy trip… don’t weep for me, just miss me.. 😉 )

Plamadude30k: Gary Larson, in his Pre-History of the Far Side says something very similar about limits making him a better artist… having only a single panel with a specific shape to do the image he wanted to make in (he says) made him a better artist. I’m inclined to agree.

The only time a photo is universally bad, is when it is taken on a Nikon

This sooo explains the voting results I’ve been seeing…

(couldn’t be that I’m totally outclassed by the competition…)

ennuipoet, you can always go with an urban waterfall.
Of the four I’m considering (gonna let Mrs. Yugoboy play arbiter) one is of the High Falls of the Genesee, right where the city of Rochester was founded. There’s almost nothing natural left except for the water and gravity (oh… and the cute little rainbow in the left side of the picture…).

Given your penchant for awesome, I’m hoping to see some urban waterfalls (and not urban volcanoes… what is it about NYC that even the ground is gassy?)

Dude… good luck and all… you know we’re pulling for you.
Let me know if you need/want to relocate upstate (you know how far upstate I mean…)

On the other hand, I am totally jealous of that shot. Sweet!

I am thinking that if we don’t specifically say anything in the boobies of the contests, but insert it in the general rules here as acceptable if it fits the theme, but unacceptable if it’s a scanned collage we won’t get very many entries.

My back-up to my back-up laptop takes a Zip Drive (no CD Drive… it’s really old)… fortunately, I already have 2, along with like 10 disks..

    I’ll pass, but thanx…

Now, if you were local and just giving it away, I’m a big enough pack rat I’d probably take it just to keep it from going into a landfill.

Sports Illustrated covers chess… ESPN has Tractor Pulls in its past, and certain sports channels cover Texas Hold ‘Em.

    Just sayin’
(I’ve got some shots already from a baseball game I’m thinking of using, so I’m not actively defending my own upcoming entry… just saying somebody might want to seriously think about either being specific, or pretty much allowing any competition using any part of the human body (which could include video games…))

I was going to cheat, but whatever you edit with strips out the Exif info. So I guess the sepia one.

I just use Photoshop Save-For-Web… the first week I tried to get in under the first 100 entries, Fark’s 200 kb filter stopped me because every pic was lovingly saved at 180+kb and somehow went over. Now I shoot for 140 and under.
    I’ll reveal the answer later…

This is why I’m keeping my Olympus.
It may be only a tiny step up from point and shoot, but it’s mine, takes really nice pics (big-ass lens for p/s… guess which entries in the shadow contest was taken with the Olympus and you win a cookie! Only one’s from the Nikon.) and I’m comfortable with it. If I get rid of it… the Nikon’ll break, and I’ll be Farktography-ing completely by archive-dive and cell-phone camera.

    I totally believe in jinxes…

I voted Nikon, because that’s my new toy that got me back into really digging photography, but the majority of my shots up to the Urban Art thread were on an Olympus.

Doubt that will happen too often from here on out.

I don’t see an option for: set up your darkroom equipment asshole, and get more film shot…

I’ve got 2 functioning film cameras I haven’t used in a coon’s age, with a few rolls of film left un-shot. I’ve got an enlarger and all the stuff but haven’t bought the chems to do the work.

About the same time as I got my darkroom equipment, my wife got me a copy of PS Elements, and I largely abandoned film. Now that I’ve discovered this place, I’m beginning to get the urge tinkling the base of my skull. We’ll see.

(I’ve got a third film body I need a lens for to see if it’s light tight… at least then I’d still have 1 more film camera than digital)

    That’s cool as &%&*^%*!!!

My wife and I enjoy watching the bats when we go south. We never get to see ’em around here.

I, too, was a little worried about the “who’s art is being voted on?” effect. It wasn’t until just today I found the “good” graffiti in town. I was more interested in not only shooting the art, but also making it interesting. I’m glad at least one of mine showed up well. I was kinda hoping the statue and flowers would do well as that one really took my breath away when I looked at it (I shot it again a couple weeks later and the flowers were gone… not the same with green behind it).

All three of mine were within a 1/4 mile of each other in the “Neighborhood of the Arts.”
