Participantwell I’m glad the entries are ok, but I’m not sure it would mess with the URLs if you just posted the addy and no html code to direct to them. weird!
I have an idea as to what happened, milady – when trying to post, I had two Farktography.net windows going.
All I wanted to say was sorry for missing last week, even though I had entries ready to go. Not losing any sleep over it though, as my ideas were similar to orionid’s rocket pic and linguine’s Pratchett collection. Here they are, if anyone’s interested (constructive criticism always welcome):

The cost of war

ParticipantZE – are you posting here or over on fark.com?
Trying to post here. I PM’ed you what I was trying to post – I don’t know why it won’t go. Hope I can get my entries up on Fark!

ParticipantI’m trying to post, but keep shooting blanks.

ParticipantYou could but your html has been eaten 😛
My whole post got eaten!
Try, try again …Missed last week’s contest due to unforseen shiat. I’m not losing any sleep over it, because my ideas were similar to orionid‘s rocket pic and linguine‘s Pratchett collection (although I must say, true Pratchett snobs prefer the Corgi editions with the Paul Kidby covers :p ).
Here’s what I would have entered, in case anybody is interested:

The Cost of War http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4044/4435781321_ff9aab95bb_o.jpgThe architecture theme was fun to shoot. I’m no expert, and I don’t usually take a lot of pictures of buildings and bridges, but I think I’ll be more aware of that now.

ParticipantHmmm, this definitely requires more research. I experimented with every setting I could find, but even at the max. resolution for my scanner (1200 dpi), I’m not happy with the result. Mr. Creamer does not seem to need the “black box”, so I’ll leave that as a last resort. I’ll let you know if I have a breakthrough. If you don’t mind, could I see some examples of your scanner art? I’d also like to know if you have more success when you get your new scanner (PM me or use EIP from Fark profile). Thanks!

ParticipantFor what its worth, this guy makes great photos with scanners:

I tried it, and have actually entered a few photos in farktography taken with my scanner over the years. I gave up, because I do not have a very good scanner. I am getting a new one through work in a couple weeks, so I thought I would give it a try again.
Here is a sample of scanner photography.
In the video, http://www.smithsonianmag.com/multimedia/videos/Transitions.html
he takes a shot of that pot-pourri-looking stuff while it is on fire, so you can see the smoke and flames in the resulting image.
So, I mimicked his setup as best I could and suspended a lily just above my scanner glass, and got this:
Which is nothing like the detail he is able to capture. I tried playing with the settings for the scanner, but nothing gives me anything close to the amount of light I think I need. I’ll try ading some sidelight, but other than using a different scanner, I’m stumped. If you or anyone who knows about this could give me a tip or two it would be great.

ParticipantCanned worms anyone? My first attempt at the “blank” may not be a legal entry (but it was definitely “art” because it provoked a reaction, right?), so I’ve reposted with a “real” photo.
And to correct myself, the composer of 4’33” was John Cage.Zero_Exponent
Participant@ravnostic, the camera I used: Fuji S3100, no flash, macro mode.
I think you are probably having trouble because it is an LCD monitor, but I could be wrong. Hope that helps.Zero_Exponent
ParticipantWhat a scanner pic of a Zero Exponent may look like:

ParticipantOK, I will abide by your decision, of course – I was going for a cheap laugh, after all – but in my defence a scanner is just a bulky digital camera, no?
Zero_Exponent
ParticipantOK I see – or rather I don’t because I have no idea how to do those things. It’s a scannner image of a piece of printer paper, cropped to 433X433 in homage to John Zorn.
