ParticipantOne b-side:

Miniscape by Exponential Photography, on FlickrBang-on theme-wise (at least as far as I’m interpreting it), but ineligible for entry, because to get “the look” I wanted, I used tiltshiftmaker.com. Also, I would like a bit more color or textural variety among the vegetation…

Participantcool. i finally made the first page of results.
You had the bicycle race pic, right? Sorry, I hate to bring this up, but I was looking at that one closely this morning, and I think it may be breaking the rules a bit. I noticed some of the “blur” appears to have been added in post-processing (which is a no-no as far as Farktography rules)? I could be wrong, and I frequently am, but I thought I should point this out.

ParticipantConga-rats to the top finishers, tough competition this week!
At the last minute I was considering this one, which now I could label it a b-side:

Maybe that was hawt enough…
Dude, my “little head” would vote for that any day …

ParticipantWell I took the theme name from the Flickr blog entry where my example came from. A mosaic is simply interlocking tiles, which is what this is. You don’t have to have a grid, you can arrange the images in any way you see fit.
Ok, thanks for the clarification.
Yugo, I quite like both of those. That first one of the flowers is the epitome of outside-the-box thinking!

ParticipantI’ve got an idea for this, but it requires models and props, and man the deadline is comin up fast 😯
So, I may not end up being able to play (I really hope to have at least one entry though) … but I agree the title “photo mosaics” is confusing, and does not seem to agree with the amended description. Maybe change the title to something like “Gridlock” or “The (Photo) Matrix”?
I’m assuming the images have to be in grid form here, otherwise sleeping‘s “Polyptych” suggestion would be better.
/definitely going to play with that free mosaic software, that is some cool shiat right there 8)

ParticipantCongrats, fluffybunny and U-man! Thanks to all who participated.
Lokisbong, I’m not upset or angry with you at all (or anyone else who couldn’t play this week). I was worried for a couple hours there that this theme would be a complete disaster, but it turned out fine.
I’m not sure if there would be enough interest to do a similar theme in the future. I noticed the voters seemed to like it, as evidenced by the high votes-per-entry average: 15.4 As comparison to that, I looked at one of the more popular recent contests, “Puddytats 2”. That one had a 15.1 average votes/entry. Tell you what; if you suggest it in the themes section, I will +1 it 🙂
Lastly, in the “I clearly do not know how the voting will go” department: my thoughts on first seeing the thread: “That Nyan cat is going to win by a landslide!” … no offence meant to anyone else, that was just my first impression.

ParticipantAwright E! The epic streak continues.
We just might hit that 30 mark U-man mentioned earlier … but even if that doesn’t happen there are some very cool pictures this week. Well done, all.

ParticipantI think I got something…had to print out an album cover, but I might make it before midnight…

ParticipantIt’s fine…the wording is what it is. I’ll be scheduling hoppered stuff this evening.
I gather you went with the original wording then? If so my apologies to you for screwing up your participation streak. Also sorry to everyone who could not enter for whatever reason–I promise no more ridifficult theme suggestions 😳
In all honesty, my favorite ones tend to be the straightforward type anyway, like the color themes, B+W, wildlife, etc.
I’m already looking forward to next weeks contest!
Zero_Exponent
ParticipantOh man I could go for a big fattie about now … stress city. Like U-man said, I’m uncomfortable having to make the call here.
I am still a liter this week, so I’ll see what the deal is later tonight. I am not about to shoot any new stuff–I suggested that as a compromise to open it up to those of you out there who could not do the original idea.
Zero_Exponent
ParticipantDefinitely don’t want to go with a different specific theme that people would need notice for. I’s say the best options are to allow picture in picture stuff with the album stuff or to open the theme entirely for this week. Well, third option would be keep as is and let the chips fall where they may
I’m sorry, but I don’t like the idea of an “anything goes” theme. I’m sure we’d have some nice photos and all, but it becomes more of a gallery of random stuff than a Farktography theme IMO.
Look, I know this is a challenging theme … but I submitted it through the theme section and enough people voted for it then to get it hoppered. Its already been postponed once at my request … so I propose we go with the “picture in picture” idea as a compromise. If we have shitty participation and voting, so be it.

ParticipantSorry I didn’t reply earlier, but I checked earlier in the day and there was nuttin new posted, and then when I got home I was taking some more shots trying to get at least two entries finished before sundown.
Oh man … remember when I suggested this? It’ll be fun, I sez. Swap out “fun” for “gigantic pain in the ass”, now that I know better. If I had to do it over again, I would call the contest “Picture in picture”, and allow any damn photo, drawing, or what-have-you to be used. If there is still time, I’m totally OK with postponing this–maybe swap it with Rust, since several people have said they got that one covered? That, or some other easily-archive-divable theme.
What say you? Gonna walk the dog now, I’ll check back here in 45min or so.

ParticipantI was able to make a CD size close-up photo of face work pretty well.
Yah, 2/3 of my ideas are closeups of faces using CDs. I found most head shots on albums were too big, whereas the CDs you can just move them closer or farther from the camera to get the proportions and perspective to match up.

ParticipantJust to make sure that my ideas are OK according to the rules:
– can I use the back cover of an album or is the front of the sleeve mandatory, and
– is the use of a picture disc acceptable as oftentimes there was/is just a see-through plastic sleeve accompanying the disc? Thanks
Good questions. The back cover idea sounds OK, and I commend your creativity for thinking of that. The picture disc is more of a grey area to me. How does this sound: I will allow it, as long as nobody else who is participating has a problem with it. If anyone objects, either post here or PM me.
