I think this is a great idea and I’d love to participate if it gets off the ground, and if you’ll have me.

This sounds awesome. Should we make it theme based or anything like that? While random photos does sound interesting, if we theme it up we could get some hillarious pics.

Please let me know when you need my address (if you want to include me)

I’m usually a lurker and a Fark-liter, but I think the idea is wonderful. I assume that postage will be paid by the one holding the camera.

Anyway, If ya’ll ain’t TOO prejudiced, I’ll gladly add an Ocean View to the list.

Ya can see some of my stuff on Flickr under “MikeyWorld”. Not comprehensive, but I’m just starting.

Description: pictures of snow and or ice or both
Thanks to DrewsMom & kmmontandon for this week’s theme.

you’d think with all the snow we’ve gotten this year so far (almost 300 inches) that i’d have more pictures of it.

but nope. all except two were taken within the last 3 days.

Wow. Where do you live? We got 4 feet in 36 hours here this time last year. Took me two days to dig our cars out.

Yes, I am, and that would be wonderful. If you’re not comfortable posting contact info here, could you email it to shawn@glassgiant.com? Any idea what I should expect to pay?

I am looking at the Bogen/Manfrotto aluminum monopods for a planned vacation in the mountains. I’d like to know if these monopods are rugged enough for use as a walking stick. I don’t plan to beat on it or abuse it, but having the option while hiking would be nice. Anyone used something like this in the intended or unintended fashion?

    These look nice:

    Never tried them however.

    OK,

Now what is the easier type of reel to load (assume 35mm)? Stainless steel reels? Adjustable plastic> Fixed plastic? Any favorites?

    Thanks

Thanks, man. That looks like exactly what I want at this point. I did just buy this cool little table top tri-pod deal with 3 little bendy legs, so that should work. Any preferences on the Hoya lenses? I’ve never been in the market for anything like this. Are they just called “Macro Lenses”?

I was thinking that a faster lense was what i really needed to get those clear shots inside . I’ll take a look at the cannon 50 mm.

    Thanks for the tips

If you want to scan negatives or slides, get a slide scanner. If you want to scan prints, get a print scanner. Don’t try to get one that does both.

If you are trying to convert your film photos to digital, get a slide scanner. Any of the modern Nikon slide scanners will do. Canon’s Canoscan is also a good value.

Scans from negatives and slides produce much higher quality digital files than scans from prints.

Nah, a 20D built like the EOS3 would cost another $600. The EOS3 is built like a tank. You can take that baby into the Sahara desert for a week and not get sand in it. I think it’s even designed to be rained on for a little while.

But that’s why I loved the 3. 😀 1-level build without all the weight and price. Since I shoot dirt racetracks in the summer, I would want the dust/water seals. But I’m not sure it would be that much more though; Canon introduced the 20D for the same price as the 10D.

Are you talking about a Rebel-like camera with a 5D sensor? T’would be interesting for sure.

What I don’t understand is that when the Contax N digital came out it was full frame and 6MP. Why did we have to go with APS-C sensors? I would think it costs less to develop the battery technology….
