ParticipantIt’d probably be helpful if we knew what you already had licenses for – I doubt you want to replace all of your software on top of buying a new computer…

ParticipantBefore or after a dress rehearsal is good – you don’t want to interrupt the flow of a real rehearsal, and it’s always better to be able to climb on stage, get close, and ask them to run the scene and “hold” if you need them to move slower than your lighting/shutter will allow.
These days, I get through a full set of production photos in about 60-90 minutes, including running up to the mezzanine and/or third balcony for the high-angle shots. You’ll want to get the director to give you a “shot list,” indicating which scene and actors will be used.
Shooting theatrical work is a lot more collaboration than some other photography I’ve done.

ParticipantFor production photos, there’s not much I can tell you besides…
1) Do not try taking photos during an actual production with an audience.
2) No, really. Don’t do it. Even if you’ve got a completely soundproof blimp for your camera, you’re going to piss off the audience.
We usually do the “production” photos immediately after a real performance, running the scenes backwards until the stage is reset for the next performance. Obviously, this doesn’t always work in the cases of really messy productions like “Octopus,” “Twelfth Night of the Living Dead,” or “Hunter Gatherers,” as there’s just too much blood and gore on the stage. So we shoot the “dry” scenes before the show, and the “messy” afterwards.
For promotional photos, light it any way you want. I typically use 1-3 SB-800s and occasionally an ABR-800, in umbrellas, soft boxes, bare, gridded, or not.
For production photos, I almost always stick with the lighting provided, very rarely adding one or two flashes if I need to “freeze” some wild action.
Keep the ISO as low as possible for the shutter speed and aperture you’re using.

Neat! I’d planned to do the same with some of the little bottles of Crystal Head vodka:

ParticipantMythbusters tested the peeing on electrical things, didn’t they?
As I recall, they weren’t barefoot when they tried it… Believe me – it’s more than plausible.

ParticipantGenerally, the high vote getters for me have also been my favorites
It’s been very, very rare that I agree with the high vote getters – whether my own, or someone else’s.

ParticipantLet me guess, this is how it happened.
My brother did that. Peed on a bush which had grown up and around the electric fence wire.
The results were… spectacular.

ParticipantThere’s a pretty decent “how-to” here.
(It should go without saying that you really want to use caution with high voltage sources…)

ParticipantSeriously, you will end up spending more money in the long run if you buy cheap.

ParticipantCool, I didn’t realize there were so many of us out here. Rav and Loki are both in the desert too.
Add one more desert rat to your count. 😉

ParticipantYes. Her maternal grandmother has hazel eyes, her mother has absolutely gorgeous brown eyes, and I’ve got blue eyes. Both of my parents have blue eyes, and both of my siblings have blue eyes. I’m not sure about her maternal grandfather.
