caradoc given that I start work at 6pm, not likely I’ll have anything better.

Bummer. I’m packed to roll out east to see if we can’t intercept what’s coming this way.

Probably going to post first, though.

Me, too. I was *hoping* our 10% chance of rain today resulted in opportunity, but as usual, not so much in Az.

    You still have a chance:

    Today
Mostly sunny in the morning…becoming partly sunny. Hot. Highs 106 to 111. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph.

    Tonight
Partly cloudy. Areas of blowing dust in the evening. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows 77 to 87. East wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of measurable rain 10 percent.

OK, not a GOOD chance, but a chance…

Bring your charger. I’ve got an inverter, and we’ll have access to the car’s 12V port. No worries.

There’s a very good reason I keep a pack of these in my camera bag.

    They’re cheaper at B&H

Of course they are – the manufacturer’s website lists MSRP…

I got mine (three packs of 2) for $2 each at a local camera store’s “Going Out Of Business” sale.

I still have one sealed pack and one opened (I’ve destroyed three of them over the two years since buying them, but that’s not surprising if you know what I shoot most…)

That would be really nice. I am not too keen on taking my gear out in the rain!

Question… would night-blooming flowers be acceptable for this one? Like these for example?

    Um, dude.

I’ve got a SensorScope, swabs, Eclipse, the works. I’m out in dust storms on a regular basis, and it just made sense to get the right cleaning gear.

And I’m local, remember? Let’s get that cleaned…

I thought of, and took pictures of, more traditional stuff (USS Az memorial, Hunt’s Tomb, Tovrea Castle, etc), but in the end, figured caradoc would blow me away on those so opted for lesser-known stuff.

We’re never tourists in our own towns. The statues/bronzes that I have photos of in the Phoenix area are mostly the bronze dancers down by the Herberger Theater Complex.

My three are posted – and only one is from Arizona, but is relatively obscure.

(And stop knocking your own work, dammit.)

Pick a Saturday night, and we’ll go. We should have reasonably clear weather for the next three weeks or so. I’m thinking a bit east of Tortilla Flat. Not much out there – not even drug mules.

I’ll be trying it out in the desert, if I can find a spot where I can trust I won’t get shot for some punk who wants to hock my scope for a hit of crystal meth.

Actually, that’s not such a problem. I’m out there a *lot* during the storm season, and I’ve never even seen anyone who looks like they want to steal my camera or anything.

It’s a lot more common to see people who look like they’d prefer to shoot you than let you call the Border Patrol, though – the area south of I-8 near Antelope Peak used to be one of my favorite areas to chase storms.

    Now? Not so much.

I will admit that 7.62x39mm and .38+p are two of my favorite friends to take with me, though.

Nice! Wanna go someplace REALLY dark? At least, dark for N, NE, and E exposures? South is a bit bright.

Got this during the Quadrantid shower in January, 2009:

That’s the best I’ve got for stars/sky/meteors. You’ve got much bigger glass than I.

Anyway, seriously a nice picture. Is the male the one on the right, trying to impress the female?
“Hey, baby, look at the size of MY wingspan!”

One of our local birders tells me that the one on the right is a fledgling – a juvenile – and appears to be trying to get the adult to offer food by doing “nestling” behavior.

Yeah, I got distracted. I got nothin’ for Numbers, got Monumental, but was distracted by the discovery of feral lovebirds in my neighborhood. See the Gallery post.
