Some really good stuff there, both of you. Hope you had as good a time as it appears from your shots.

Just a note for everyone tonight – If you don’t usually visit the Themes forum, I’d encourage you to go check out the many theme suggestions currently in there. We actually need to get some more original ideas into the hopper over the next two months, so if you have an idea for a theme we’d love to hear it!

I’ve been holding off, but I’m gonna make a voting pass through there within the next couple of days or so; maybe even toss in a couple of ideas.

I noticed that several of the themes you’ve personally suggested recently just happen to coincide nicely with a lot of your & orionid‘s trip photos. Happy coincidence or does someone have a couple of ringers they’re trying to throw out on us? HMMM?!? 😆

// j/k of course; I’m sure most of us have a shot in mind when suggesting a theme.

Anyone participated in this? Anyone inspired to do so? I’m thinking about heading out this weekend to snap one of the few in my county that doesn’t have a pic yet.

I meant to respond to this earlier, but yeah, I heard about it as well and thought it sounded like a good excuse to grab my camera and head out on the cycle. Time & other obligations have thus far been less sympathetic to the cause, though.

Cool (& congrats) that you got one accepted.

I’d lose much productivity time if I really went full-retard on an archive dive.

😯 You NEVER go full retard.

So is anyone else having way too much fun with this one? Narrowing it down to 3 is going to be really tough.

If you have Windows 7, I think it tops out at 8Gb (so far as I’ve seen at least)

It depends on whether you’re running 32-bit or 64-bit and which flavor of Windows 7.

32-bit Windows (XP, Vista, or 7) tops out at 4GB (actual usuable amount is about 3.5GB), but 64-bit Windows 7 supports 8GB on Home Basic, 16GB on Home Premium, and 192GB on all higher versions. You can see the full chart here.

I run Windows 7 Ultimate with 12GB, which was the max I could stuff in it at the time I built it a couple of years ago.

Well, I’d be surprised to find someone in my normal circle IRL who knows what the Fibonacci Sequence is, much less thinks it was cool to have found his grave, so you’re probably one up on me there. 😉

Math was always one of my favorite subjects. Sadly, it appears that that gene didn’t get transferred to any of my kids. Equally sadly, my career never called for any heavy math, so I’ve forgotten much of it.

If you haven’t already, take a look at these articles on the Golden Ratio and the Golden Spiral. They’re closely related to the Fibonacci Sequence. It’s fascinating how frequently they occur in nature and the arts.

Congrats, rav, on the individual win; looked like you were gonna pull off a sweep, but U-Man came in strong at the end and grabbed the combined win (congrats as well, again!).

Yugoboy, I’ve seen photos of those plants before (aren’t they a form of broccoli?), but never in real life. Like rav, I’m a big fan of fractal-generated art (yes, rav, I’ve played with fractint myself) and I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that something that looks so obviously like the output of a fractal program exists in nature.

Pretty cool, ennui. If you could get both water and air traffic, that’d really be neat. Looking forward to your future results.

Congrats caradoc! Awesome exposure (professionally and photographically). I’m with rav in that I really like how the tops of the clouds are lit in both of those.

Meh, you can have mine. It was only good as a tripod weight and didn’t perform very well for that either… 😛

Just noticed this: Dang, son, you’ve been gone so long, you’re on the Kotters list this week!

Hey, plama, welcome back; I was wondering when we’d see you again. You surely picked an appropriate contest for your return!

As Kes mentioned, file sizes have changed. On the BiblioStats side, I implemented the Normalized Place calcuation that you (and I think rav) wanted.

Hey guys, been lurking for a while just signed up. Could someone update the farktography rules to give the correct image size? It says the maximum is 640 width so I did that, but everyone else’s are bigger than mine!

Elsinore or someone at Fark will have to update the rules page, but FYI the size limits as of fairly recently are 850 x 1500 with a filesize up to ~500k. Also, welcome to the forums!
