Just my opinion, but I think this theme should have been changed to photo collage, formerly mosaic for just the reasons being given. There was too much confusion between mosaic and collage. I thought the 4 to 20 photos was just a guide line to distinguished between mosaic and collage NOT an exact number. Again, just how I saw it.

i have no idea what you might call mine. it certainlt doesn’t match the 3 or 4 preceding it. perhaps i misunderstood what was meant by collage and did too much photoshopping. if so kill it.

in any event it’s all i got or will have for tonight.

Interesting, I went through the same “value analysis” and concluded to shoot (mostly) each series specifically for this theme.

i used to shoot for each theme if at all possible but RL has intruded in the last year or so and i archive dive far too much now.

i took some older photos that have several frames of each and combined them into one photo. it’s much more of a colloge and reminisent of yugoboy‘s second sample. it’s probably marginally on theme and a guarenteed low vote getter. but by golly i HAVE an entry.

Ok seriously, we can’t keep it to an actual objective, stated number range? And for comparison on “Sleeve-Faced”, it said clearly the images used had to come from album/cd covers, so the 12″ regular images I originally used wouldn’t cut it (and rightfully so). Just sayin’….

    what she^ said.

this message brought to you by mr. damnit play by the rules.

on a related topic my biggest problem making entries for this contest is the “can’t use them later” part. i often shoot 3 or 4 frames that are (almost) indestinquishable but still hate to give up 20 x 3 just for one contest.

///Oh. And I pulled a rookie mistake. I brought my camera and was happily taking pics of a baby swan sitting on his mama’s back. Decent pics, not great. I tried to preview a shot and saw…”No Card”. Damn.

That is the first thing I turn off on a camera. I used to have a horrible time remembering whether or not I had film in a camera until I’d take a couple of shots, I would never remember the CF Card unless I turned off the “Shoot W/O Card Option”

my D5100 gets a warning notice and the shutter won’t release.

with film one learns to keep the left index finger against the take up winder and feel the rotation when cocking the shutter.

also it was nice of you to respond to both of U-man’s posts.

So, both are about vehicles but vehicles are not necessarily the focal point of the shot.

so they are artsy fartsy stuff. cool.

i still wouldn’t vote for them. i want all entries to look like mine with the theme subject centered in the frame or if not then arranged by the rule of thirds. imagination or thinking out of the box will not be tolerated. once snapshot quality prevails my entries will rise to the top and i will break back into the top ten.

    9. 200GB worth of card space was barely enough for an event that lasted 12 hours.

    10. It’s probably not necessary to take 10 frames of each posed portrait. 5 would have been fine.

    i think i’m seeing a solution here.

on the time involved how much was misplanning and how much just being there with your friends and taking pictures. since you were there and all. my guess it’s unusual for the photog to stay 12 hours.

overall it sounds like you both had fun, made a couple of bucks and learned some good lessons.

I need two quick clarifications. 1) Does the vehicle need to be clearly in the photo, or can it’s passage via a streak of light imply it’s presence and 2)Must the vehicle be the focus of the photo or must a vehicle just be present in the photo?

speaking just for myself i don’t vote for things that look like they were incidental originally. now that said i voted for the grasshopper on the rusty thing by MaestroBen simply because i liked it. still think it’s a photo of a grasshopper not rust and therefore off theme.

well tonight is all archive. they may look familiar as they were shot of other contests but none of these individual exposures has been used before.

Damn did someone fart in the thread this week, where are the voters?

I was wondering the same thing. Wasn’t me, I swear. Though it seems two of my entries are real stinkers, at least according to what voting there has been.

there seem to be lots of ties this week. just clumps of votes, like 6th has ten folks in it. my best has 6, number two has 3 and the third only has two. and there are two folks i know who vote for me pretty regularly.

now i didn’t expect to win but i sure thought my entries would do better than they have by now.

    Mmm frozen film!

i had a bunch of it but finding developer was getting really hard. then the freezer lost power and it all thawed. wasn’t worth refreezing by that point.

this film needed E3 developer. the one you had to flash. even free it was difficult to get excited about shooting.

until you held those big beautiful 4 x 5 slides in your hands.

    I’ll allow it.

you should, you have one of the more obsolete cameras around 🙂

It would be nice to see if there is a correlation between order of appearance in the thread, i.e. speed of posting, and vote getting. Might be hard to isolate that variable, since the people who put more effort into making good pics probably put more effort into posting them rapidly. Is there a statistician in the house?

this has been debated and analyzed to death. the consensus is no.
