well it’s 75 right now and the front that will drop tomorrows high to 55 is fast approaching. but while i had some nice weather and lots of sun i shot about 210 leaves pictures. they finally have turned and have lots of reds and yellows. those would the china berry trees. only really colorful trees i have. the pines don’t do much and the others that turn or change went from green to on the ground in about 2 days.

so i’m all set for next years contest. even made a “leaves” folder so i can find them later.

ok, taking my own advice i’ve selected three photos to enter. the first is an actual house. the second and third are kinds of houses. i’m guessing all will do poorly in the voting and two and three may raise some eyebrows.

but 1) i like them and 2) they are are loosely tied to the theme. besides the other decent “house” picture i wanted to use would be a repeat. different theme same photo.

sorry, misread your post sleeping. i have a knoica/minolta maxxum 7D and AF film lenses fit it ok w/o adapters. got it as a kit with a knoica/minolta 18-70 AF film lens and bought a tamron 75-300 AF as a second lens. the only problem so far has been that nether have a decent macro. the tele has none and the shorter lens won’t get as close as i’d like.

my XD-11 and the MD lenses for it will do 1/2 life size. the minolta 7i which is fixed lens SLR shots pretty close also. not true macro but good enough for what i want.

minolta MD are bayonet mount. i have several. see this page for picture and other general info
http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-99.html page has sample pictures also.

and i’m not trying to be picky sleeping the minolta thing just caught my eye since i have MC and MD both and couldn’t use them on the new digital. autofocus, yeah but not the manual.

also sirosisoflyvre from the little reading i just did it looks all screw mount are interchangeable. see the note at the picture of the M42 screw mount.

    so the problem is?

monkeybort you can always follow my tried and true posting method. shot what you think falls within the general parameters of the theme and F anybody who doesn’t like it. may not get you a lot of votes if others think it’s outside the theme or don’t understand them but hey, got to be true to your artistic eye.

of course i did get chastised today at work for my in your face attitude so take my advice with a large grain of salt.

Morningbreath so what you have is roughly $100 of raw film? that being the case shoot a (non critical) roll and have it developed. if you haven’t yet go here http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/tib/tib5201.shtml#SEC43 and look at their sample pictures. it looks like the film fogging can be worked around some depending on the subject matter. it also looks like the effect could be useful, again depending on subject matter.

GalleyWench as much as i love your outdoor photos and can’t take similar ones here …..
nope just too damn cold for me. haven’t had a frozen pipe in years and the very worst it’s ever been is 8F in early december back in ’83.

all those raised houses in new orleans. the plumbing supply companies ran out of pipe and the plumbers were working round the clock.

from a kodak site for movie film http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/support/technical/xrays_airport.jhtml

here’s a blog on film, mostly triX http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00DTzs&tag=

here’s another kodak site covers all film http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/tib/tib5201.shtml#SEC43

it won’t even make good toast now if those sites are to be believed.

but they do say try developing some to check. i’d take the odd roll or two and see. can’t hurt.

    wish there were better news.

i am a minolta fanboy staplermofo and proud of it …….

well until konica got involved and killed the camera line 🙁

that said i looked at the E500 specs and the deal breaker(s) for me are the 2x thing and the two lens thing. the reviewer at steve’s digicam seems to like these lenses but it almost reads like a PR release. “Shoot wide open or stopped all the way down and achieve superior results over 35mm film based lenses. Zuiko Digital Specific Lenses are about three times the resolution of ordinary film based lenses.” i have a bit of trouble with the three times resolution statement w/o doing the tests myself. that is a lot better. unless they are talking about really cheap film lenses. and i doubt the nikon f series are cheap and they are supposed to fit the D50.

my latest purchase was a konica/minlota maxxum 7D which i really like. (one doesn’t love an inanimate object) a real plus for this camera is that it will mount all the maxxum film lens w/o an adapter. that means i could buy a 75-300 film tele lens at $160 that fits and works fine. there is a 1.6 factor but i can live with that.

i was going to mention on camera control (rather than software) but see both the E500 and D50 don’t have all that many and both seem to rely on software for tweaking. which is fine 90% of the time. i have a minolta 7i and it is mostly software control and it hasn’t been a bother. you do need a good memory or the book if you are playing with the software controls in the field. or at least i do.

so i’m leaning toward the nikon but it’s your money. and you do have an extra lens now that could work with the adapter.

good luck no matter which you pick.

i like the B/W one better for two reasons. 1) i’m partial to B/W for shots like that and 2) the color one is too busy. however the blue being where it is pulls your eye off the center of interest. when you look to the left and see it the path from there is up and out of the frame.

also if i were to print that from a negative there would be some dodging and burning involved but w/o actually playing with it i can’t say where. the white/light area at the upper right distracts me. in both shots.

    my $.02

the 8 EST time is for “total fark” members and the time the contest goes “live” or to the main page is set by a fark admin. it varies from week to week but would mostly be when you are sleeping or at work. so far as i know there are no plans for a european timed contest.

you can submit a new topic in the gallery section, two down from where you posted this. in that new post you can link your photos and i can assure you they will be viewed. whether you get the feed back you want or not depends on 1) how you phrase the request (do people understand specifically what you want to know) and 2) who views them and how much time they have. this is a pretty friendly and helpful group and the more you are around the more people will respond.

the other thing you might think about is getting a total fark account and staying up late wednesday night. some of our european members do that.

BTW i took a look at your gallery on deviantart and haven’t anything specific to say. for one thing i don’t understand your comment re slide vs. digital. with the exception of wobbles which, to me, looks like hand shake the others are your interpretation of various settings, things, etc. you seem to be able to look from a different perspective than the straight snapshot mode which is a big plus but technically they are good photos. in that they seem to capture what you were aiming for, are properly focused, enough DOF where needed, etc.

try them out on the folks in the gallery section.
