Thanks for the leeway. Not sure if I’ll push it, just trying to plan for a limited amount of shooting time and hoping to have some contingencies.

So to clarify, gas filled tubes with high voltage applied from one end to the other causing a cascading internal plasma discharge are not a requirement,… we can also use things that are “neon” colored?

For those interested, on your Fark preferences page, under the “Comment Preferences”, un-checking “Enable modern rich text (WYSIWYG) editor for posting comments” will default you back to ye olde posting methods (at least it works for me).

/I have my local NWS pages as toolbar buttons in FireFox so I don’t have to go through all that every time.

I do the same thing, since it’s not just you who thinks the NWS is a navigational mess.

Kinda figured you knew all that already but I posted it thinking it might help someone new to the field someday.

Cool find. I think I’d still prefer my normal procedure, but I’ll add that in to see if it provides some additional perspective.

Normally I use two data sources. ClearSkyChart being the first and NWS being the second.

The NWS site is miserable for intuitive navigation (for me anyways), so here is how I use it in a nut shell:

Go to “your local” page, you can usually get here with relative ease.
    http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Amarillo&state=TX&site=AMA&textField1=35.2026&textField2=-101.819&e=0

From it, on the right side near the bottom there are two links in the form of images. One being the “HOURLY WEATHER GRAPH ” the other being the”NATIONAL DIGITAL FORECAST DATABASE”

Those two NWS pages combined with ClearSkyClock provide forecast data from two different sources (CMC and NWS) which can enhance your confidence level. Besides that, CSC is only good out to a day or two where NWS data goes out to 5 or 6 days so it helps with longer range planning.

This is all of course subject to the validity of predicting the weather. FWIW, YMMV, IANAL, OMG, BFF, WTF, BBQ,….

Gebus, I have nothing for this, and I don’t mean ‘nothing’ as in the good way.

I just wrapped on my three and I had to think outside the box. Way outside. I can empathize with stumpage, seems like I’ve been kind of tanking lately.

“Images which exceed 500KB will be automatically rejected. Entries larger than 850 pixels wide or 1500 pixels tall will be scaled proportionally to a maximum of 850 x 1500… but it will look far better, and will much more easily fit in the file size limit, if you rescale it yourself first. “

In the comment box there is a button called “Use HTML buttons” or something to that effect. This may help. Not sure exactly where you’re having trouble.

But I do know borders are ok as long as they are not huge. a little narrow border is perfectly within the rules.

Sorry, yep, that’s what I meant – the fact that it has a border isn’t a problem, it’s that IMO it has too much border.

    Agreed.

I’ve been gifted several times already so I don’t want to hog it by any means, but if there are still TF’s up for grabs and no other liter steps up, I’ll take one. It’s always nice to have the option to post early. 🙂

    Done (I think).

Neat shots and scientifically useful, too – awesome! And you’re interning at a national park? Color the younger me envious!

This is my second park and I also was at a wildlife refuge between the two parks. Its been at a lot of fun, especially for something that I stumbled into on the idea that it beats selling insurance. Hopefully I’ll get a real job out of this one day.

Sign me up on the envy list. Insurance sales vs park ranger, now there’s quite a spectrum. Here’s to it working out.
