ParticipantI did just set up the domain yesterday but I’m guessing I might have done something wrong too. Although the errors I was getting when I did the DNS test indicate that it hadn’t correctly propogate yet since it still have me the original IP address returning as an A record and I deleted that for sure.

ParticipantYeah U-Man I went 2 years into the archives and found 1, count it, ONE, picture that I had intentionally taken off kilter and also processed. Fortunately I had willing subjects to offer as tribute.

ParticipantAwesome! Now I have to figure out how to use this.

ParticipantI think orionid was planning on putting up the thread this Friday for suggestions (maybe next Friday). But I’ll say go ahead and make some non-celebrity, non-NSFW suggestions that we can start that thread off with. We are going to vet the most popular suggestions for anything ridiculously difficult.

ParticipantHey not to stir up controversy – but shouldn’t this week be Farktography Anniversary 7? 😀

ParticipantStop me if I’m wrong but the shots U-Man posted are all ones he’s used for other themes?

ParticipantI’ll also bow to U-Man‘s discretion but I would agree with Elsinore that there’s not enough sun visible in that shot for this theme.
/ennuipoet rushes to the Themes forum to suggest “Sun Behind Buildings”

ParticipantI actually have the answer to that. There are 3 reasons why you can’t photograph the interior of the submarine:
1. Its very expensive to maintain this artifact. Most if not all other steel/modern ship museums are maintained on the governments dime. The interior is fragile and the extra charge goes directly towards upkeep.
2. Being fragile, one of the factors that is controlled is lighting. Cloth in particular is very light sensitive and most of the interior is cloth. Flash photography does contribute to light degradation.
3. Despite being captured this is still a piece of German property. That is covered in swastikas. Which are illegal in Germany. Even when the ship wasn’t pay to enter, photos were verboten. That whole cultural respect thing./worked next door

ParticipantIf you’re concerned about shooting into the sun, you can always use a filter of some sort to give your camera some protection. It can be a piece of colored glass or plastic, pantyhose or other translucent material or an actual polarizer or sun filter. Of course your results will be “abstract” of a sort depending on your filter but that’s my 2 cents.

ParticipantI was surprised to see how many subjects chosen by other photographers I have also photographed. I did consider a U505 picture and I’ve got pictures of Alcatraz, the Staten Island ferry, cargo ships, etc. etc. I should have figured sleeping would use the Nautilus too since our pictures were taken at the same time 😛

ParticipantSaw this on TF under the headline “Facebook plans for Instagram secretly released”: http://whiteoutnews.tumblr.com/

ParticipantYeah most of the Instagrammers were already on FB – but I thought of something else today too. It’s not just the acquisition that”s surprising but the $1B price tag attached to it. Why would they be willing to pay so much for an app that’s probably just a fad? Well, instagram *just* released to Android last week. It was only on iPhones previously. So, perhaps they had to outbid Apple to acquire Instagram since Apple is a fan of acquiring things like that. Say what you will about the “quality” of photos put out by Instagram, it’s a powerful photo editor that is probably better than Picknik (now a Google product) or Aviary (the yahoo replacement for Picknik on Flickr). FB didn’t have much of a photo editor before, now they have access to one of the most sophisticated entry level user ones available.

ParticipantWell as I said about the dead leaves, it technically fits the rule of the theme without fitting the spirit of the theme, so you’re welcome to submit it and let the voters figure it out. Quite honestly I couldn’t tell the bottle was floating until orionid pointed that out.

ParticipantWhat is this…I don’t even ….?
