ParticipantI so wish I had started these earlier. Work is getting in the way. Family is coming to my house for Turkey Day and I’m gonna be getting ‘the look’ from Mrs. U-Man when I’m doing these instead of cleaning up and such.
I get “the look” whenever I do anything photo related. Welcome to the club!

ParticipantI don’t think I have the authority for an end-all answer. But, given the somewhat processed nature of this type of photographic presentation, I would be inclined to allow all sorts of borders. I made my first one last night and didn’t even think twice about placing three pics on a blank background and then painting the background black – resulting in a wide border.
So, my input is that borders of all sorts are allowed for this theme. The photos should still be the important part though.
Elsinore? Kes? NBD? Anyone else?
I would hope we are using borders. Otherwise I have to re-edit all mine!

ParticipantI played around a bit last night and was pleasantly surprised at the results. This one doesn’t fit the theme, but I love it.

ParticipantI guess it all boils down to the old saying “I don’t know what art is, but I know what I like.” Even in my own shooting, I don’t feel like I have a style, I shoot what interests me, and process the ones that I like (usually less than 10% of what gets shot), and try to use different techniques or equipment to see what happens. But I’ve had multiple people tell me that they know and love my style, and that they could pick one of my photos out of a stack of 100. But none could put into words what my style was.
So, I’ll keep shooting, and since it’s not my day job, nor do I intend it to be, if people like and want to buy, print, or publish my shit, okay, cool. If not, fuck ’em, they’re my photos anyway (although, it would be really nice to rake in seven figures from a single print).
Very much this…
I see my photography as a technical skill more than an art. I will read about techniques and gear/gadgets all day, but talking about “artistic styles” bores me to tears.

ParticipantThen, if you’re stuck deciding between photos, please keep the spirit Yugoboy intended with the theme in mind and lean towards the three branches of government rather than their subsidiaries.
This…
I think most people will be close enough to the intent of Yugoboy’s idea.
Looking back at the original thread this was hashed out pretty well.

ParticipantYeah. Every day I drive home past the Blue Ridge Mountains. A day like today where the thick fog was rolling out of the valleys as a backdrop to old style barns and foothill farmland in the foreground makes me sick because I really don’t want to take the risk of bringing my camera to work plus there’s not really anywhere to stop and shoot except for physically pulling onto the narrow shoulder with questionable legality. Took some pics with my phone while driving, haven’t checked them out yet.
It’s all about the time and the place. And *having* the time to go to the place is a big challenge right now. We live 2 hours from the National Mall and will be archive digging for this week’s theme because we just don’t have the time to go into the city and shoot right now.
Maybe you should invest in a micro 4/3 setup that would fit into your purse. They are not very expensive and take fantastic pictures. If some thieving dickbag takes it you are only out a few hundred dollars.

ParticipantSo we’re all on the same page, right?
Right. And cars are alive, right?
They consume, they excrete, they are mobile, modern ones even have brains that think
They still don’t reproduce though.
wanna bet?
Until I see little Smart cars waddling away, it didn’t happen.
How many nested quotes can we get?
At some point they’ll collapse in on themselves and form a black quote hole.
I wanna see that in a twisted kinda way 😈
A hole from which no substance can escape.
Past the point of no return.
Would it help if we divided by zero?
do

Just wait until Elsinore gets back.
So will the forum engine start line wrapping the earlier ones at some point?
Wheres my black quote hole?
Improbability passing 10,000 to 1. Passing 100,000 to 1. Passing 1,000,000 to 1. Approaching infinite improbability. Standby.
You know, it kind has that Mayan temple thing goin’ on now. Xtapolopacetl is pleased.
U-Man‘s original post is getting narrower, but not as quickly as I might have thought. Perhaps there’s a quantum effect in force.
Keep going, guys! I think if we compress the first quote enough, we might be able to finally discover the Higgs-Boson.
Oh good Lord.
/still playing along
I must get in on this experiment
*crunch*
3Well it would seem we are definitely all on the same page now! Question answered U-Man
Woohoo! U-Man’s text shrank.
I wonder if the next nested quote shrinks too.
I wonder what this stepped pyramid looks like in side-elevation…
Are you mad? The human mind can’t cope with that kind of horror!!!
Hope mrgreen doesn’t break the thread! This is too funny!

Participanthaven’t [strike]dumpster[/strike] archived dived yet and probably won’t. it would come from fairs that haven’t done well in the past.

I dove this week. Haven’t been to the fair since 09. I’m running out of shots from that set to use here!
