ParticipantJealous!

ParticipantI’ve tried gimp and ufraw and found them woefully inadequate after using CS5 or even Elements for that matter.

ParticipantFill light brightens the shadows. Vibrance is somewhat like saturation.

ParticipantI shot all mine this morning on my break in the drizzle.
Welcome to the forum Gambitsgirl. I can only imagine how difficult those shots were. Thanks for sharing them with us.

ParticipantACR is pretty straightforward, but there is a ton more adjustment room than you get with the Nikon software or GIMP.
This shot I adjusted the exposure, WB, sharpness, color tone, saturation, contrast, black point, white point, fill light, and vibrance. So there is a lot of manipulation, but it is done technically within the parameters of the rules I think. I’m not sure I would be comfortable using a shot like this though without the communities input.

ParticipantI’ll plus 1 it if it’s 4-6 months out. I’d rather see another software hootenanny before a strictly HDR.

ParticipantFor blemishes and the like, it’s intended for things that are just a few pixels, not a face full of acne, …
So I guess we can’t fix this poor thing then?

Alas, no 🙁
Well, we could start with hair and costume. Then move on to pose and lighting. Come back for eyebrows and makeup. And finally, a thick coat of Vaseline on the lens and maybe a smile. Anything can be fixed.
If you are taking a photo and say to yourself, “Oh, I’ll just fix that in Photoshop,” then perhaps you should stop and correct it properly in the first place. Think of it similar to the process of building a house: it’s better to level the foundation in the first place, than to shim the walls to correct that.
The PoPo don’t usually worry about that stuff for mugshots! 😛

ParticipantI have Topaz In Focus which is a similar product. It works good for very slightly soft photos due to camera shake. However if you are shooting at higher ISO you get unacceptable grain very quickly before you clear up the shot. I wonder how it would work on a shot at a wide aperture, f1.2 – 2.8 where you miss focus a bit. My guess is it wouldn’t help at all.

ParticipantAn animal in a zoo is not a pet? A “wild” animal kept in a restricted zone, owned by a person, isn’t a pet?
Technically…maybe, but we were mostly looking to keep out domesticated animals. I doubt a tiger in a zoo is very domesticated. We included zoo animals in this theme because most people (other than aspidites) don’t live in the jungle and have not traveled to the Serengeti on photo safaris. Otherwise it would have been a thread of squirrel and backyard bird photos and that would be boring!

ParticipantAfter a long week that isn’t over yet, I came here to find out what this week’s theme is. I got nothing picked and nothing planned.
Too bad you didn’t get a shot of your face the moment you realized that your camera just fell overboard!
What? Too soon? LOL! 😉

ParticipantLight leaks are art…at least that’s what the Holga folks say! 😀
