I didn’t think I had anything either, but at lunch break I went through the archives and came up with a few decent ones.

Looks like a good excuse to upgrade to me 🙂

I just bought the same lens on eBay for $92.00. So I probably wouldn’t spend much to fix it.

I was sitting in a field this afternoon trying unsuccessfully to take pics of bird, bees & butterflies. That not working out (thanks to a rambunctious dog)I decided to make a half ass pinhole camera out of a sheet of paper and a sharpie.

I came up with some interesting shots.

I am wondering if they are “tricky” enough for this theme though.

Example: unedited except for a small crop.

see I’m often in favor of art that makes the viewer uncomfortable. I think that can be the purpose of an art piece. Whether fark is the appropriate location for that, I have a feeling I know the answer.

I agree. Art is supposed to push the boundaries.

Unfortunately our little photo contest is on Fark where the rules tend to be a bit worksafe PC.

So by posting our pictures to the Farktograpghy contest we agree to abide by the rules that Fark has in place.

I see nothing wrong with your photos soosh but I don’t make the decisions and I am not particularly squeamish.

    I have to agree withnutkick_42.

The rules we have seem to level the playing field enough so the guy with the camera phone has as much of a shot as a pro.

I always thought of Farktography as being more about the photo as it relates to the theme over the actual “quality” of the photo.

I would be willing to bet if we went back over the top tens we would find a large part to be spur of the moment type shots as opposed to set up shots.
(or funny stuff….KFC buckets thrown in the air!)

That said I am not opposed to the changes that are being offered here. I think there is nothing outrageous being proposed.

Well, Mother Nature conspired against me last night.

Massive T storms knocked out the power and it’s still out.

Had to wait till I got to work to post.

    🙁

Hmm…what the heck happened to my Southwest Airlines pic?

It was tack sharp. Photobucket made it look like crap.

Here is what it was supposed to look like.

    Oh well…

    Nice photos everybody.

This weeks contest is killing me. It is one of my favorite styles of photography.

I’ve narrowed it down to 8 pics by not looking on my external drive.

    😕

Now to get it down to three.

(sorry to ruin the fun, ‘mofo)

LOOK AT WHAT YOU SCORNED! LOOK AT IT!

You’re monsters! All of you, MONSTERS!

    *runs off crying*

(note: this is a joke, and I’m deeply appreciative that rules exist and are enforced. I just wanted to post it somewhere)

    Nice!

Personally I don’t think that is a rule breaker.

It shows creativity and thought more than comedy.

A happy meal on a paper plate fits the rules but is not creative.

    But..I’m not the rule maker.

    Nice job everybody!!

It’s nice to see so many people hit the theme right on the button.

Now I would assume a toy isn’t a vehicle, provided it doesn’t have room for a kid on it.

Okay, I’ve got two tougher questions:

-are amusement park rides vehicles? It may look like a ship, but it just spins around on a central axis like a giant swing. And what about a roller coaster? It has wheels and it goes on a track, but it really doesn’t take you anywhere. I concede that bumper cars are probably vehicles, but merry-go-rounds are not.

-what about shopping carts? I don’t believe they’re vehicles, but what if I post a picture of my abandoned shopping cart collection?

Well, if we use your “it isn’t a vehicle provided it doesn’t have room for a kid on it” logic (which meshes well with the Wiktionary definition of vehicle: “A conveyance; a device for carrying or transporting substances, objects or individuals.”), all of your examples above, including Lokisbong‘s toy car would count as vehicles. They all convey people, whether that conveyance goes from point A to point B, swings back and forth, goes in a circle, or what have you.

However, I would guess all of these things (and obviously the toy car which NoBigDeal already signed off on) are fine within the theme, because they present very different visuals than the rusted truck up on blocks or cars in a junkyard, etc. My presumption regarding the difficulty was that it was an attempt to fend off the myriad of junkers and weatherbeaten shacks that we would have seen otherwise. Broken down amusement park rides just seem “different” to me.

However, I’ll defer to NoBigDeal on this if I’m interpreting things incorrectly.

headfreckle: I agree with nutkick_42. I have some ruined bridge stuff myself.

Yes all those are ok with me, As Elsinore said the point of the difficulty was to weed out old cars and old buildings, both of which can be their own theme.

Anything else, including bumper cars, bridges, etc… is ok by me.

I would like an opinion on this. I would say it was a toy not a vehicle?

I can find other stuff if this doesn’t fit the theme.

I don’t see a problem with that. Same goes for paddocks, corrals, old roads, fences, etc.

quesy? oh that could be interesting….

Why is it the longer I look at the pictures I was planning on using the less awesome I think they are ?

That happens to me all the time. I’ve decided to just not enter some weeks, after reflection on my putative entries.

I find that my judgment of my own pictures is lacking.

The ones I like never seem to do very well and the ones I throw in as a last resort get more votes.

Do roads reclaimed by nature count???

    Works for me.
