ParticipantThanks! And I didn’t know you were in the Flickr Strobist group – do you use a different user ID over there?
Basically the same: “Reverend3Horn”
I’ve seen your stuff there before.
Didn’t put 2 & 2 together…
This http://www.flickr.com/photos/3horn/3059811964/sizes/m/in/set-72157610106928956/ was the first shot of yours that I came across. Amazing capture

ParticipantI’ve got nothing but my naked ones…and I’m not sure I want to subject y’all to that.
I am gonna try to do a few with the grandson tonight. I was thinking longer exposure and 2nd curtain flash too.

ParticipantI’m still unsure what to get. My husband and I are going on a trip late September and I want the lens by then. I looked up the info on the Canon 70-200 f/4L and your right Soosh, it’s listed for $613 on Amazon so it is not too much more than the Canon EF 70-300 mm f/6-5.6 IS USM. However, the price NoBigDeal is offering is VERY tempting. U-Man is arriving today for a week and I plan to pick his brain. So if you need to put your camera on Ebay today, I will understand. But if your willing to wait a couple of days, I can then give a definite answer. The decisions I need to make: IS or not; weight of lens; distance quality; ease in use; and cost.
I don’t mind waiting a while. I have been procrastinating about selling this lens for a few months now anyway.
This really is a decent lens for the money. I don’t care what anyone say. If you are shooting over 150mm unless you have rock solid hands, you usually need a tripod to get tack sharp photos.
Look at the moon shots I posted, those were on a tripod and manually focused. They are very sharp.
I will try to take a few shots at 300mm with this lens on the tripos and off tomorrow and I will post them.
(The 70-200L non IS is a great lens BTW)

ParticipantThe lens is good for what it is. It works fantastic as a mid range zoom and portrait lens. They all are a bit soft at long focal lengths and the IS is really no help at 300 mm. You really need a tripod at that length.
My moon shots were taken with this lens.

I really don’t use it much and I want to get a 10-22 or a 17-55 f2.8. I have a 70-200L lens that I use regularly when I need a longer zoom.

ParticipantI’ve been shopping for the best price on a Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM and Amazon has it at $529. That’s a little pricey for my caliber of photography. What would you suggest that is just a notch below this particular lens?
I’ll sell you mine for $430 shipped UPS. It’s a year old, in mint condition and I have probably used it 20 times.
I am going to put it on eBay next week so let me know.

Participantglad to hear it, Just Kat.
I had planned on going out after dark last night to take some shots for this week’s contest, but ate something yesterday that disagreed with me highly. I’m not running anywhere and will probably sit this week out.

The brick building in my shots is the Narragansett Electric power plant in Providence RI.
I really really really wanted to shoot that at night, but alas, it never happened.(stoopid procrastination!)

ParticipantThose are great pictures. Apparently mine just show industry, not the beauty of it, so I’m going to pass. I do look forward to seeing everyone’s and voting appropriately.
What soosh said…
Never sit out a week because you think your shots suck.
The ones of mine I like least always seem to surprise me.

ParticipantNow I feel sheepish but better. I am trying. Silly work gets in the way a lot of days (okay, 5 days out of the week), but I definitely try to get out.
My favorite shots to do are of flowers, but flowers don’t work in everything. I don’t like to garden or grow stuff, but I like to take pictures of them. Go figure. Sometimes I’m told not to enter anything by my husband, but I think trying is better than not. I always want to put in at least 1 picture. I think it’ll only be 2 this time.
Hubby and a friend went to the “city” yesterday and he brought me back batteries as I requested. Silly camera goes through a lot, but I make do and try to make the most of the shots I will get before the batteries go kaput.
Anyway, thank you TONS for the encouragement to just keep going and having fun with it. I feel a lot better about where I am.
Best investment you can make if your camera eats batteries, and not as expensive as you think.
I have been using the same 4 in my P&S that I use for my eBay store for about 3 years. ($22 original cost)
