I believe the spirit of the theme is to show something you took after the theme and said to yourself, Dammit that woulda been great for… but not to specifically go out and shoot for a past theme.

But I suppose there is no way to stop someone from going out with the intent to reshoot.

    /Honor system and all that

U-Man, try diffusing your flash more. some low-budget diffusers that I have used include circles of 1-gallon milk jugs (you can stack them for more and more diffusing) or even just kleenex/white tissue paper over the flash.

What do y’all think of this for the minimalism theme? It was taken on a damned cold day, directly into the winter sun, which was filtered by fog. The ocean surface is frozen, somewhat, which is why it seems like there is a hill leading to the two small boats, which had guys breaking ice away from salmon hatchery stuff. This is a color photo.

I like this one, too, but not sure if it’s minimalist enough.

Nice shots but I’m not sure if they are technically minimalist. The first one has too much distraction at the bottom. Maybe crop out the bottom and the left side just keeping the boats.

The second one has way too much going on for my taste.

This guys work is what I think of when I think minimalist and is what I am using as a template for this week.

I’m pleased to announce (for those who cared) that a friend has given me his copy of Photoshop Elements that he doesn’t use and I have colorpopped my other 2 choices. My husband doesn’t have to do it for me any more. Yay! I’m all ready for this contest and the images have been properly uploaded to Photobucket so unless Photobucket crashes and loses my pictures, or something else happens, I can just post and go. Woot!

    Yay for doing it yourself!

The contests are on fark.com. So if you don’t have an account there you will need to create one to be able to post. The contest starts for totalfarkers at 8PM eastern time and at midnight for the regular farkers. One of us will put up a link to the specific thread on fark in this thread and a link will also show up at the top of the farktography website or you will find it as the first Thursday link on fark.

So entries can be posted in totalfark after midnight wednesday night, and after it goes green on normalfark. When does voting begin and photo submissions get locked off? does it ever move from normalfark?

Enquiring minds want to know. Or at least foggy ones.

If you are a Totalfark subscriber you can post @ 8pm EST on Wednesday.

Non Totalfarkers (Liters) can post after midnight when the thread goes live.

Voting starts at midnight Wednesday and usually runs into Saturday sometime.

You can post photos up until the thread closes on Saturday but you probably won’t get any votes that late.

Now, on to the update. Thanks to the assistance of one of Elsinore’s Fark contacts, we DID find an embedded iframe linked to gcounter.cn, just as google was saying. The kicker is it only showed up if you did NOT have a browser cookie from farktography.net. It has been removed, and a request submitted to google to rescan the site to get rid of the ugly red ZOMG FT’S BEEN HACKED page that firefox splashes up. So hopefully that aspect will be taken care of soon.

I’ve been able to narrow down when it happened — the modification was made sometime between the Monday night backup at 11pm eastern and the Tuesday night backup (also at 11pm). I’m still trying to determine if the hack occurred through our site to see if we’ve got a problem, or if the host itself was compromised and we were hit from inside.

What does this mean? Well, if you’ve been logged in the entire time from before 11pm on Monday, you’re completely safe. That is also probably why bucky_bacon didnt see anything with SiteAdvisor. However, if you’ve had to log in, visited the site for the first time, or signed up since Monday night at 11pm, you may be at risk, and I would strongly recommend running a virus check on your machine. It looks like gcounter.cn also dropped a browser cookie, so that’s a quick way to check (but not necessarily definitive). If you have a cookie in your browser from gcounter.cn, run an AV scan ASAP.

More to come, I’m still digging through logs.

FWIW after I posted my shots on Wednesday I left the site for a while, when I came back around 11pm I was logged out. I had not logged out, and every time I closed the page and reopened I was logged out until Thursday morning. I had the offending cookie on my laptop but AV & spyware software found nothing.

My work machine which hasn’t been on the site in a couple months was still logged in and has no suspicious cookies.

Seeing as how I have not shot anything yet for this theme I want to say one entry of three. But I know me and I will have 3 or 4 by Wednesday.

So on that note I vote that we have at least 2 entries of three photos and that 3 entries is ok with me too.

Yeah, if it’s blurred out so that it’s rendered SFW, it’s ok. You can link to a non-blurred version with the proper warning 😉 If you have any doubts as to whether it’s SFW, message me and I can check it out.

It’s in my flickr. Look if you dare!

Is a blurred out naked man butt cool? Don’t wanna violate rules or cause a mad rush on eye bleach.

    Photoshop editor:

Top left hand side click Image: from the drop down menu click :resize click: image size, change image size to 640 pixels in the width box that pops up. Make sure you have the box checked that says constrain proportions. Hit ok and save as you normally would using the quality slider to get under 200kb (you should be pretty close). This will make the photo Fark appropriate sized. You can save a larger version to upload to Flickr also and put a link to that in your post.
