That sounds like it would be against the spirit of the contests to me. Brilliant thinking, definitely, but it’s one thing to use a scanner to convert media, and another thing to use it to create art IMHO.

    I wouldn’t be butt-hurt if I got outvoted, but I think it’s a slippery slope…

I haven’t seen the image in question, but using a scanner to digitize a photographic image is a bit different than drawing something and scanning it. On the other hand, taking a picture of a painting is legal, though if that were the only thing in the picture there’d have to be a good reason for me to vote for it.

ooh can I take a picture of myself and say I’m missing a heart? or a brain? 😛

It has to be ‘obvious’, so maybe the brain one…

    Woohoo! Have fun Elsinore!

/my weekend plans involve having someone else driving my sorry butt around 😉
//and hopefully harassing drunks with my camera in the process

    –edit And congrats U-Man!

And yes, tchau‘s shots were model shots, found them on his Flickr and confirmed. I normally stay up later to watch the thread, but I was exhausted last night and went to bed kinda early. He posted those literally right after I went to bed, as Murphy’s Law would have it.

They’d be great shots in another contest though. I hope we didn’t scare him off :/

olavf, I love the biker shot!

Thanks 😀 I love the fact that they’re hanging out in front of an ice cream parlor in that shot. Those guys are pretty much there every weekend on that corner, and across the street in front of the Mexican restaurant. Nice guys, gorgeous bikes.

I’m wondering if tchau‘s shots are posed? Especially the first one…

    But…
Choc-Ful-a, love the ‘boy and dog’. Too funny.

I had a hell of a time with shots this week too 😛

And probably my favorite, even though I ended up not using it. He caught me doing what he was doing:

I didn’t think mine looked posed, but now I’m not so sure. Guess I’ll be adding some text to the description =P

I don’t know Verdi :/ but it looks like the locals did a pretty good job – I think the biggest brewery involved is Pyramid, and there are 8 or 10 breweries from the greater area that have some part in it. Maybe next year I’ll have time to do the photo scavenger hunt…

I miss The Big Tomato! I lived in Yuba City for seven years, Sacramento was like a metropolis by comparison. I spent quite of bit of time in Old Sac, unfortunately at lot of that time was under the influence of alcohol so I don’t remember it was clearly as I should. 😳

Heh. We’ve got other watering holes for that sort of debauchery, but Old Sac is definitely a fun little place. Ever go there for Gold Rush Days? Dirt streets, cowboys, the whole schmear. Good times 🙂

Haven’t made it up to Yuba yet – it’s a bit out of our normal patterns, but I know there’s a bunch of wetlands up that way that we’ve been meaning to check out – probably later this spring…

orionid, unfortunatley Sacramento Beer Week (yes, really!!!1!) is this week, so anything I shoot this weekend will probably have to wait for the next booze contest – if they’re not all blurry…

-as to your question, my vote is that if you didn’t know each other, you didn’t know each other. If you started hanging out after, that’s inconsequential in my book.

I like Farktography for the free abuse. For example, I have to play $20 a picture to have it ignored by the State Fair 😉

and ennuipoet that’s a great shot. We have something on a smaller scale with Old Sacramento – I’ve used a number of pics I’ve taken in the area in the past, and will probably use another this week. There’s some special crazy down there too, but fortunately they’re not my neighbors 😆

lokisbong I have no say, but I think any of your shots would be appropriate. And, I like the guy with the dog 🙂

I was going to suggest ‘strangers going about their daily lives’. I don’t know that it needs to be a city, per se, more that they’re doing whatever it is that they normally do. I understand the ‘no street performers’ thing, but to my mind, that’s the guy playing the sax on the street corner, or Mr. Roboto.

/getting confused as to what’s cool and what’s not. I *think* the seven or eight shots I’m considering are okay, even under the strictest interpretation, but I’m less than sure….
