Looks like they were going for hi-key, slightly desaturated processing. I think it would also help to be outside within an hour either way of sunrise or sunset.

Actually, I just realized that one of my entries (my favorite, tbh) may be against the rules. It’s a shot of a computer screen at 1:1 macro, which shows the pixels (I know from having seen some in my time), but you can also make out some of the content. Can I get a ruling from the farktography pantheon? Yea or nay?

Yeah, Rav, I’m totally excited for this one. I’ve got two solid entries I’m happy with, and I’m going to go find a third right now.

Could I get some opinions? I’m trying to decide between these two:

I already have a flower photo, but I’m just not sure the portrait is bokehey enough. I’ll be traveling most of tomorrow…today…Tuesday (whatever it is), but I’ll be able to check in a couple times during the day. Posting on Wednesday is going to be interesting, since the contest will go live at 2PM local time. I’ve gotta figure out how to fit that in my schedule.

Looks like it’s archive diving for me again 😳 This whole moving thing really puts a damper on my photography time 😡

Hey, I never asked, where did you decide on?

Manchester, UK – flying out in about a month and I still haven’t bought my ticket or packed, haha.

Take it from somebody who has their plane tickets and is currently packing-start now. It might be a hateful process, but it always takes longer than you think it will. 5 days, 19 hours, 28 minutes, 34 seconds left on the continent. Not that I’m counting or anything.

I feel like I’ve been through all of these stages already. I also feel like I haven’t been doing photography long enough to be where the graph indicates I should be. Maybe that’s the point…

Awesome stuff there. I’m not sure what the beach bums are doing, but it looks hilarious.

I’m back now, and I just posted the last few. The last day and a half was completely ruined by heavy smoke blowing in from a nearby fire. Still, a good haul, all things considered.

Just try to find the Ring Nebula without GPS controls–it ain’t easy–and I never could.

I’ve been able to do it, mostly by knowing the region of sky and a lot of luck.

Interesting stuff here, I think I’ll throw my hat into the ring. Be advised: the story is PG-13 in the special way that only a group of teenagers can devise.

Back in middle school (and through high school) I had a really good group of friends, one of whom had a very intelligent, though a little strange younger brother. Their family had certain political views, and being a young impressionable kid, the younger brother joined in the criticism of a certain political figure. I do not pretend to understand the thought process of this child, but it did produce this singular gem:

“…And, and I’m going to stick him in a…a giant…Plama…” etc.

Apparently he did not know the word for the male genitalia. Being the immature young’uns we were, we thought this was the most hilarious thing ever. We adopted this new word as a last name for all our online alter-egos-there was a Ryan Plama, an Ed Plama, and so on. I was Christopher Plama, and I had a hilarious blog under that name written from the point of view of a homeless guy living in the Albuquerque Public Library and doing daily battle with the librarians. You might still be able to find it if your google-fu is strong.

Later, we learned from our polish friend that “Plama” means “spot” in polish, and is usually a name for pets. Again, most hilarious thing ever. It wasn’t a far leap from that stage to Plamadude30k-I’m a dude, and the 30k just sounds cool. It’s like I’m an advanced model of the plamadude-the plamadude of the future. The rest, as they say, is fairly monotonous.

    /end rambling.
