ParticipantWhile all your experiences vary, I envy yous’ for having photography companions, at any level. Of course, on the photographer creep angle, esp. pics of children, I’m sure having two males shooting images would just increase the ‘creep’ aspect exponentially.
I do well shooting the people I do without hassle thus far, though, and I think it’s because I often have set up the tripod, and use the remote cable release. Perhaps that adds to a ‘professional look’ factor. Dunno. I’ll be happily going solo to the Ren. Fair soon, though–I’m actually quite at peace photographing out on my own.

ParticipantI’m with the one’s who said, “I know I’m going to get my ass kicked tonight but…”
All in good fun. It’s a pleasure to be challenged every single week to do better.
I find I usually have more than a few choices these past couple weeks. Picking ones nose is easy. Picking one’s entries is not. My beez:

ParticipantAurora’s are direct interplay between solar winds, the earth’s magnetic field, and the ionosphere. I’d say not weather.
The phenomena that are a result of water and ice crystals in the lower atmosphere (Or even man-made noctilucent clouds, as we saw recently) like rainbows, sundogs, and halos, I’d go ahead and say are weather. But I’ll defer to Kestrana for the final call. It’ll be late, though. She’s busy today.
This is my thinking, also, but I’ll await her verdict. And there’s plenty of time, I’m just looking for a little ‘forecast’ into next week, as I have this week in the bag.

ParticipantNice! The trees (pine needles?) are a great touch.
Yep, pine. Took an f/stop of ’40’ to get them, but the tree was still too close at 50 or so feet to capture them clearly, with the moon. Oh, well. There’s always another full moon next month (or tomorrow, I’ll still be awake, there’s other pines on the other side of the complex.)

ParticipantTwo questions:
1) Are you counting auroras as weather? Just want to know as soosh sweeps contests with his unbelievable pictures, and it’s nice to know what I’ll be going up against (i.e., am I vying for #1, or #2–as if I could get either!) As I read the interweb, aurora are within the atmosphere (the ionosphere), but are well above the point where H2O plays a role. It’s a matter of where we draw the line on our atmosphere, and that decision is yours, Kes.
2) Besides rainbows, there’s a host of other atmospheric light phenom’s, and I’d like to use an image containing them (rainbows=light reflected/refracted in/through water droplets, there are a host of others can be light via ice crystals). Si, or No?

ParticipantDamn. I remembered some shots I took at the state fair which turn out not to be what Pope was looking for per his latest comments. However, I think they may fit this theme–and replace a weakish entry I have instead.
Take a photo that appears to be black and white/grayscale with the exception of one object or color…
Before I decide, what if that ‘one object’ is a person, and that one person happens to be very colorful? Elsewise, the shot could be b/w.
//if that’s too far away from what mopsy is looking for, I’ll go with what I’d already selected.
ravnostic
ParticipantYou know, mopsy, I changed my selection up a wee bit, and colors do pop–I just wish I could change the color! I think the powerful bold colors are going to do better than my ocher yellow…and I never could get the teal fountain the way I wanted it (kestrana did, but she was working from an already-edited shot, which I couldn’t duplicate without the numbers being tweeked way too far out of proportion for my tastes.)
One of my bees is this one–but yellow surfboards have been done before, IIRC:

ParticipantAhh-ooooooh, werewolves of London, ahh-oooooooh….
Tonight’s Full Wolf Moon, rising betwixt the trees.

ParticipantAlso, Ravnostic: There’s a glitch in the matrix. Your leftover lasagna has been swapped for an apparently delicious burning building.
Damn–I hate when I do stoopid stuff like that! Pulled the file. Did some file renames, uploaded, and fergetted I’d posted that file name. Well, there’s one of three that won’t surprise anyone. 😳

ParticipantThanks much for the info!

ParticipantNot to distract from the printing aspect of things, but I’ve a question on the monitor calibration side. Is there freeware for such a task? I’ve occasionally wondered if what I’m seeing is close to what others see in my images. I have and ACER laptop, and use the system defaults for viewing, which claim to all be set for ‘photography’. But I still wonder…

ParticipantAlas, tone does not translate well to teh internets. I didn’t mean it with the edge, more of an amused exasperation.
Phew! This wouldn’t even have come up had I had the foresight to take more than one image of a subject back in the P/S days. I mean seriously–I was digital, why the hell didn’t I take multiple exposures!?!
Stoopid. I know better now.

ParticipantOk seriously, is it that hard to refrain from using text or photos that have been used before when there’s so much else you can do? What does anyone else think?
[hikes leg up in ‘Captain Morgan’ defense move]
O-righty–it was just a question…as I said, I’m fine either way…

ParticipantSo I’ve been archive diving, and came across a picture that I may want to use for ‘Color Popping Naturally’, from back in my P/S days. And I’ve been playing as well, and the same shot would be good for this theme, as too. Still no “can’t use the same photo twice” rule? Or can that not apply, either?
If not, I think I’ll save the image for this one, as it’s I think I like it better in the hooty interpretation, but if so, I’d like to still consider it for CPN.
ravnostic
ParticipantI haven’t had any problems photographing either, knock on wood. However, I’d imagine a frumpy looking woman might not be as intimidating as ‘some guy who could be a terrorist–or a pervert’. A woman photographing children? Few people would think twice. A man doing the same? Instant pedophile in a lot of people’s minds.
//she looked frumpy to me, at least in the two images I saw of her. And some people DID look displeased to be photographed.
