//In lesser news, it will also be my 1 year farktographer anniversary. I have no idea what to do with it. Probably cats–I have no kids, I’m no good with the farkisms, gawd knows I don’t have a collection of scantily-clad women pictures, and I don’t even know who etc. is.

Wiki, astounding authority that they are, sub-headlines the topic with the ‘see also’ tag followed by “Internet Meme”, whereupon they tie in with the mentioning of the “caturday meme”, two sub-topics above. And I’ve seen this meme a number of times here, there, and again.

Based upon this,and what photos I have to work with , I have to ask if lolcat posts are acceptable, as I might have a fleeting chance at not sucking nearly as badly as I did before Richard Tickler taught me techniques which aren’t germane to my question.

In other words, can we caption photos in this contest?

Ravnostic, thanks for the kind words about the M&M photos. I am sure yours would have been better than mine. I took about 50, but was not really happy with any of them. My black M&M’s kept coming out purple, so I had to ditch them. maybe its time I invested in some lighting.

/Elsinore, I found black and grey M&M’s at an M&M store in Times Square, and bought them just for this contest. I had no idea they existed either..

Not only do they exist, they exist in about 40 different colors–from white to black and about 4 different shades of gray. AND you can now go online, submit a picture, and have M&M’s made with your picture imprinted upon them.

//edit–I should add most malls that have a candy shop will have one of the dispensers with the many colors. I’m a fan of teal. Cost a fortune, but it’s cool to have several shades of any color available, and you pick what you want, and how much.

at least it wasn’t the white cake makeup wifey painted on my face for me…took ages to get off. On the plus side – she did suggest that she be the model for the Dali-ism shot…:

I did miming for a couple years as a kid. Cold cream does wonders for white cake makeup removal, IIRC. Just a thought for future pancaked photographers.

very useful for getting accurate focus. Focus on stars is a lot harder than some might think… and soft focus really kills astro images.

…and you wouldn’t believe how hard it was to find this information when I needed it, without remembering ‘Bahtinov’.

I got about half way through and made my decision. If you were to start pulling because there are those with too much color or the wrong background, you would be pulling “LOTS.” I realize there are those who try to stay within the letter of the theme, I tend to be one of them, but I think you just have to let it go and hope the voters will take the theme into consideration when they vote.

Gotta agree with this, if only for the reason that if a lot of pics are pulled, people may be upset and decide farktography isn’t something they wish to follow–and I kinda like having all this interest–even if it’s not particularly for my pictures.

Oh, and damn, you Orionid, and your snow! 😉 I’m seriously considering not even entering ‘Winter’. Given the state of my tires, I don’t dare drive the 3 hours to get to it/drive through it, and realistically, my Arizona chances are slim to none elsewise. I think I’ve got enough ‘credits’ to keep my ultra-farktographer status even if I skip one–and if not, such is life.

Overall some really nice entries and I won’t be surprised if I’m lucky to have just one entry in the top 50% this week.

Do you shoot in RAW and use Canon’s DPP? If so, choose the “Click white balance” option of the White balance adjustment and then click anywhere on the cloth. The point you click doesn’t have to be white – it’ll adjust the photo so that the point you click is a shade of white (i.e. gray) and should remove the green tint without affecting the red of the firecrackers much at all.

What!! 😯 This is ALL I have to do? 🙄

I shoot in both RAW/Jpeg, and have been manually attempting this via the color temp scale. Shesh. Where’s my damned manual…I gotta read up on this.

I do well shooting the people I do without hassle thus far, though, and I think it’s because I often have set up the tripod, and use the remote cable release. Perhaps that adds to a ‘professional look’ factor.
