ParticipantI do have a concern with ‘By the Numbers’ lumped in with ‘Humorous’. Three of them are, three aren’t and one (first place) is kind of on the fence between the two. I can’t offer any suggestions for better placement. I wish I could. But it’s an observation. I like my ‘PO Box’ shot, but how does it fit into humorous? I like (really, I love) U-Man’s Chevy sign, but it’s not funny either. OTOH, ‘Wiz Judge’ and QueenBee’s nod to THGTTU are quite funny.
I dunno. I’m just saying.

ParticipantKes, Chrome, viewed via plugin, I downloaded it though and now it’s fine, so thanks for the suggestion. Something to look over on one of tonights breaks (yeay!–I get bored there.) Last name is Vall…, not Vill…
elsewise–looks good!

ParticipantOkay, I like what I can see, but I still get error messages left and right–about 1/2 the pages don’t show up (error 20’s and 110’s and 10’s), a lot of the pics look like they were divided into parts and display monochromatic tones (yellows, reds, greens, blues) in each part, there’s a font I can’t get….
It’s frustrating, as I know you are working hard at this. I do have the latest acrobat reader, but it doesn’t help.
I can only assume that some of your toys aren’t compatible with mine, and I’m not getting the full picture, so to speak.
I also hope that my pic of Saturn looks a lot better in a working reader than it looks to me in my disfunctional system.

I like the colors of the sky, and the sils. of the branches, but I think I’d like it better if that pole wasn’t in there ( all together now, THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID ).
There’s no skylight–it’s totally the ambient lighting of the neighborhood; mostly the sodium vapor part. But it looks like a sunset sky, doesn’t it? I did take some with 1/2 the sign, but unfortunately, the focus wasn’t quite as sharp as this one.
Actually, the focus was fine–I live next to the central Phoenix Post Office, and there’s a semi coming through every 30 seconds, causing a breeze adjacent to the street. By the time the scrub brush gets settled down for a 1/15-1/30 second shot, another truck comes by (plus other traffic).
I’ll probably just need to retake the shot after 3am, when things settle down a bit. At high ISO with Az’s ambient temp, there’s a lot of noise; I’d like a longer exposure with a lower ISO, and a higher F-Stop to book.

Participantzincp, I had the opposite reaction–seemed like darned near anything was okay. But I’ve picked, I’ve scratchpaded, I’m now committed, for good or bad. The one I like will probably fail, the one I think will fail will probably do okay, and the one I’m just posting ‘because’ will surprise me. All is normal with the world…
I think I’m finally getting the voter thing. Early results show that the one I like (ceiling fan) is a fail, the one I thought would fail (sunset quadrangles) is doing okay, and the ‘just because’ one (yellow pages) is ranking quite highly. I took so many damned pictures of them yellow pages solely because it sat out all summer and I wasn’t going to waste mother nature’s work just because I couldn’t figure out a way to make a cool picture from it. I only posted it because it fit the theme.
However, ‘getting’ and ‘understanding’ are two totally separate things.
Had I taken this before the contest, I’d have used it instead:

(Just as well; it was taken for Forktography and I may use it there.)

ParticipantFWIW, the Fark website is unreachable from my home (Comcast SF area) and from the ISP hosting my website either. There’s no info posted on the http://beerspill.fark.com/ site yet and no Twitter updates either.
With no disrespect to Patrick Swayze,

Enjoy the irony. Station?

ParticipantThere really needs to be a ‘click to vote for all’ option, especially this week. But then, nobody would win. It’s going to be a really tough call on who to leave out. There can be only x^0.

ParticipantI may have been involved in a few non-pc photos myself:
http://www.buckscorner.com/temp/sheep.jpg/Have I mentioned lately how much I wish I were ewe?
No?
I’ve been remiss.

ParticipantU-Man, seriously, you have no Bees. You should just own up to it and call them Ayes (what you post are the Aye +’s).
‘Rust’ and ‘Tar Paper’ would have been a grueling choice against what you posted.
That’s what sucks about these contests–there can be only three…

ParticipantHave you tried the irfanview ‘save for web’ plugin? It’s been a godsend for me, insofar as retaining some quality whilst reducing the size. I even use it for the ‘bigguns’ versions, though I don’t reduce the quality any; I just get the files to under a meg.
And if not, have you considered valium? You might not get things right, but then you won’t care, either.

ParticipantThanks, its a bw shot of water running down a concrete embankment.
It’s really loverly.

ParticipantKestrana; ooooooh, ‘Calcification’–me seriously likes, that’ll get my vote…
linguine; loves the b/w shot–what is it? Is it even b/w? (my ceiling fan isn’t, but kinda looks that way)
justkat; your an assfan? Me,too! Lovely shot, wonder what’s in the bottle?
This is going to be a really good ‘fail’ for me, I love everything posted so far–the competition will be fierce.

ParticipantBut, really, dahlink, tell us how you REALLY feel?
/sorry, I do feel your pain.
