ParticipantGot it. We’re talking about games with at least some sort of rules and some sort of winner. Dress up and riding bikes and similar fun activities don’t cut it.
Right?
This will result in some DQ’s.
Consider changing the description to “…Sports and fun activities without rules or winners are not part of the theme.” Or something like that.:)
I’ll think something up. Expect an updated title sometime in the middle of the night (I think poor Elsinore needs a break after last week!! 😆 )

ParticipantDo the pics have to show games with rules? Or can kid/adult/family play without rules be included? My three girls play “dress-up” at least once/week. It is play but it’s not really a game. Whatcha think?
How about such summer-time stuff such as running through a sprinkler, playing in the backyard pool, riding a tricycle, catching frogs/turtles/lightning bugs?
See where I’m going? Play without the rules to make it a game.
If these are right out, that’s cool. I’m just clarifying.
I think running through a sprinkler with the goal of not getting wet is a game. I can’t see the other items as being so, but if you can extrapolate the sprinkler idea into the other items you listed and convey it on film, then I say go for it.
And, if anyone can do so, sir, I’m pretty sure it’s you.
Would pillow fights count?
See above. I don’t want to limit the imagination, but I do want to have images represent something that can be won and appreciated. If the pillowfight has a clear winner, and it’s all in good fun, then perhaps it IS a game.
But on the other hand, I think that shot of the kid riding off on a two wheel bike for the first time with his dad bokeh’ed in the distance reflects more of a personal accomplishment, rather than a game, and would better be suited for a different theme.
If I had my druthers, I’d everyone stick to stuff like what’s listed in the theme description, plus what’s been talked about before. But then, if I had my druthers, I’d miss out on seeing a lot of unique perspectives on the theme, and that does good service to no one. I’d love to be surprised–I’m counting on it–I have my ideas, and don’t expect to do any better than I’ve done before as a mere participant (but I did plan on bringing my game, so to speak).
So use your best judgement, and best of luck to everyone!
**one more thing–‘spin the bottle’ is not a game to play with your 7 year old daughter and 45 year old drunken uncle. That’s just wrong. So please, keep it clean in that regard.**

ParticipantIf I had taken that shot, I’d be combing the desert for the glass tube of crispified sand as a keepsake. Nice shot!

ParticipantYeah, I used to think I was a geek, but then I found you people. Now I’m just a nerd.
I’d be glad to host the program on my hosting site (just a right-click-save-as file, really). Plenty of room to spare.

ParticipantWell, ‘B/W&GOV’ is a memory (congrats); ‘Foolish Games’ an editing project, and I’m up to contemplating ‘That’s just Filthy’.
Sexual: out.
Elsewise, any guidelines? Standards of taste?
For example; I don’t particularly care to see any turds in a toilet bowl or a toddler with waste leaking out his drawers, but then if I don’t see one ‘Arkansas woman finds Jesus’s face in the bird poop on her windshield–Vatican investigating!’ shot, I’d be mildly disappointed.
Are you looking for my kitchen after an all-weekend party, my car after any typical no-rain-in-six-months, or tag football in a muddy field?
Or…
Well, that’s the point. What’s the or?
ravnostic
ParticipantNo, mopsy people are not required to appear; any game implementations or setups are fine (I expect to see a game of Mousetrap taken in a long exposure by someone, all the elements shifted and blurred to indicate their progress).

ParticipantSorry I’m just now getting back to the thread–been a busy morning and afternoon for me. I cleared out some more off-theme stuff, but I’m sure there’s some other stuff toeing the line.
As for selective desaturation, there’s really only so much I can do; if I can’t determine beyond a shadow of a doubt that someone broke a rule (like using HDR stuff, an obviously stitched panorama, or someone flat out said they shot something on b/w film for this one or submitted something where all the values are clearly grayscale) I can’t really delete it since I have no proof. It’s hard enough toeing a line on what could or could not pass for b/w, though it really should be more obvious than it seems to be 😛
Don’t the fancy programs like Photoshop have some sort of ‘there are x number of unique colors/hues in this image’ choice? The closest I have to ‘fancy’ is Irfanview, and even with the moon shots I take, if I cap the saturation 3 or 4 times I can see colors (which is a fun effect on occasion; Luna). It maxes at 255, but can be done more than once; I’ve read in the forum a value of 3000? Not that I’d have to be the one going through them all….(orig image resized, non-tweeked excepting color maxed 4 times)

It’s been a good theme, though. Taught me color is a hard thing not to photograph. And that I have no eye for colorless.
ravnostic
ParticipantThe only problem with “subdued color” is defining what “subdued” really is, which could be…challenging. On the other hand, we’ve had a number of actual black and white shots submitted despite the theme saying “color photos”
And a couple that look very much like selective desaturation.
I don’t envy the mod’s job. I’m not even sure I want to vote yet (other than my own, of course 🙂 ) as I don’t know what’s ‘real’ and what’s not.

ParticipantOuch! My moon has to go up agains Soosh’s! I’m doooooooooomed! (Not that I don’t think mine is good; but I mean, really–it’s Soosh!)
ravnostic
ParticipantIt’s damn cute, too… I hope I didn’t end up using it for something else…. Well, I have several frames, I could probably find another that would work.., 😛
In addition to bracketing, I always take several pics for just that reason.
good submissions so far this week!

ParticipantActually I was only a fan of Star Wars when I was a kid. As an adult, not so much. But Star Trek? Love them, even the odd ones.
ravnostic
ParticipantI find that I am unable to contribute this week, for a couple of reasons..
R-G or Y-B? Can’t you have someone view your possibilities and help with that? For that matter, the unique perspective of color-blindness would be interesting to see in the gallery here…I’d enjoy seeing what you view as b/w, as I’ve never had the opportunity to compare what you see vs. what the ‘rest of us’ perceive. I would find that educationally enlightening (I am a geek and thus enjoy such experiences).
The saturation question has been answered in the revised description, so that’s now a mute point. I hope.
ravnostic
ParticipantI’m not sure why, but I really like this one.
I absolutely agree, and I know why (for me): contrast, contrast, contrast. The salted sandstone is phenominal against the darker ground. Plus, you’ve got the silhouette thing going. The deep blue peeking out from within the clouds, the mountains fading into the mist back deep–most excellent shot! Did ya happen to bracket with other f/stops? This would be HDR spectacular, if so (but it’s very breathtaking, as is.)
ravnostic
Participant…it’s a space station.
/don’t tell me you missed that reference, rav?
Sadly, I did. It’s been a while since I paid any attention to all things ‘Lucas’. Why, if it weren’t for my ‘Princess Leia’ headphone-style hairpieces, I’d still not be getting it.
