    Wow.

Indeed. It was neck-and-neck between you and Kes and there’s been a couple contests where things change at the last minute. But congrats to both Kestrana and U-man for the 1st and 2nd!

For my part, I thought Silverstag‘s watch-works had a more-than decent chance of taking the lead in the cumulativies. They were very fine shots, SS.

I never expected to do so well–my trend on themes I suggest is to do very poorly, so this was a nice surprise. (I did hope the water drip would do at least somewhat well–I tried to better it and gave up 50 frames later–lucky shot, I guess.)

Aw, thanks ^0, but it isn’t quite over yet–voting is still open (I find it usually stays so until midnight hits Guam, or shortly thereafter-about).

…and the inspiration for my colored water dots (though I didn’t have access to cool ants, it gave me the idea.)

I give it 1:1 odds the broadcaster would have preferred to be facing the other way to have seen it. *swish*

Given Curious‘s sensor dimensions, yep, about.

How do I figure out the ratio on my little Canon a560 point n shoot. The entries this week are all just about 1 inch across by 3/4 of an inch high. I held a jewelers loupe ( cheap three stackable lens dohicky ) up to the lens while the camera was in macro mode to achieve much more magnification than I can get otherwise.
… The dohicky I was talking about.

I would suggest putting the camera in macro mode, and shooting as close as you can, photograph a ruler (I’d use metric) from corner to corner across your frame. You can look up the size of your sensor and use a^2+b^2=c^2 to determine your diagonal width (in mm, pref.) on your sensor.

From there, do the same, only through the loupe dohicky. With this info you can determine the ‘natural’ and ‘enhanced’ ratio of magnification, the % gain, and if you can determine the the shooting distance from subject to sensor, the field of view as well. Any appoximation would be useful. This was how I determined the max. magnification of my DP in the ‘macro’ mode, which is about 2:1 (ie, the diagonal of my sensor picks up a FOW of a subject 1/2 that length.)

(And if I figured any of that wrong, someone please correct me!!)

Well damn. All this time I could have been enduring the heat in shorn-comfortness. Oh, well. I’ll have to grab some shots before I let it go, then.

Did I miss something? I could have sworn “Hair ye, Hair ye” had gotten hoppered some time ago…but I’m not seeing it. Am I mistaken?

Because I haven’t cut my hair since November in anticipation–and it’s 110+ degrees, and I’m hot, and I’d love to be able to let it go…

Meah. It’s always up to the voters. Back in the theme thread it was discussed, and earlier here, too. I’m not personally against the old wood stuff, though it’s not what I had in mind. In the interest of not making things too darned complicated and moderating it to death, I’m letting go of it (i.e., I’m not going to raise a fuss–‘sup to you, Else if you want to bother with them). That Bob guy, though–yep, way out of bounds.

Hey–I just noticed: Votes will register immediately.

//edit: of course, I can’t see 1/2 the pictures, so I’ll have to go back and get those later.

one more vote y’all… just one more vote…

This (and dang it–I got all excited thinking ‘and Yugo makes 10!–then I saw you already voted).

Plea for an extra day or two for fencesitters?

    Anyone? Bueller?

Gosh, I sure hope so–but I shouldn’t doubt this group–yout’s knows how to bring game, even if at the last minute. Ya’ll are a constant source of amazement, inspiration and (when you out-do me, when I ‘thought’ I’d have a winner) frustration. 🙂

I really like my choices this week…but historically, I don’t fair well on themes I suggest, so ya’ll are expected to blow me away, and I look forward to seeing some most incredibly-amazing shots of ‘not bugs, not plants’. Bring it!!

    yay!

Ditto on the job thingy!! I’m very glad to hear you’re gainfully employed again (means you won’t have as much time to come up with shots that, frankly, blow the rest of us out of the diesel water). 🙂

    I was outside doing a fire-fighting trainer.

    😯
