If the explanation comes caption-sized I don’t see why not.

As an educator, I’ve got no problem if you want to elaborate on the caption below the caption (think museum or art gallery signage).

For example, I shoot a house. All right, it’s a house. But if I then caption it with “Susan B. Anthony’s home, Rochester, NY” now you know who’s house. And if I want to further explain in a paragraph who Susie B. is and what she did, that’s fine.

Let’s do try to keep the history general. Local, state, national. If some mayor’s birthplace is very photogenic, go for it. If the most famous person to graduate from your high school is you, unless you’re Farker Wil Wheaton or somebody, it’s probably a no-go.

Inventors of stuff are cool, too, of course. So if you’re asking if you can shoot the homesite of the inventor of the Swingline xm200, that’s cool with me.

    Hope that answers most questions.

    Thanx mucho guys….

Got some sleep. but probably not enough…

I’m at work, which is probably stupid, but when I’m sick, I’m relaxed enough to not go off on the brats.

    Getting nap later, methinks…
    (like between classes)

I am exhausted with a capital E. Been sick since Monday, and there’s NO way I’m going to make it to midnight. If someone could OBO this for me, I’d be grateful, if not, I’ll survive. It’s only one, and it’s not one of my greatest, but it’s an oops that fits the theme.

    Thanx much!

Izzy the Ghost Dog Getting in the Damn Way!

Went with “Ghostly Apparitions” portion of the description…
Somewhere in the heart of the Adirondacks at some neat cascades.

Yugo and ennui, if it helps, remember the “paranormal” part of the theme which would include ghosts and apparitions. No need for props there necessarily.

I’m hoping to get time to get a couple of entries for this one, but I’ve got several things going on so I’ll have to play it by ear.

You reminded me of an “Ooops” shot from this past summer’s trip to the Adirondacks. My dog got in the way of a long exposure shot… So… I’ll have one.

    I want to have props…

Gonna be sitting this out unless an actual UFO crosses my path tomorrow.

No ideas, no props… looking forward to the general weirdness Thursday

    Kes is correct.

But don’t forget how much of the internet is ignored in the rush to update one’s status from “hungry” to “making a sandwich” and tweeting exactly what was on that sandwich. More people are creating content these days (of whatever value) than ever, and that is time taken away from viewing others’ content.

    Will do…
Honestly never been to 1000 Islands, although we’re within a day trip when we go to the Adirondacks.

Maybe we’ll do that sometime. We’re west of there, so we won’t be stopping on that trip.

I’ll keep you apprised of the situation.

Keep us updated. If the budget holds out (at this point it’s negotiable… a thousand either way will be the determining factor) we’re going to be doing some of that trip. Where in MI are you? The return trip will be taking us through the UP, down to Houghton Lake and out at one of the eastern exits through Canada.

My wife called me in the middle of my work day in a panic… the power had gone out. She was informed that it would be out until tomorrow. She texted me less than 3 hours later to let me know it was back on!

So… the day AFTER the big storm, and the day BEFORE the eye is going to reach us in its significantly reduced form we suffer the most we’re going to suffer… interesting.

(We STILL know we got lucky.)

*Except catastrophically poor adults who don’t have kids, or friends to party with, and who don’t appreciate the decorations or slutty costumes. But screw those assholes.

    Hey! I resemble that remark!

On the other hand… I got 3 pix I like, and all were shot specifically for this theme, so I’m good.

It took about 4-5 minutes to pick up the branches and twigs that fell off the tree in the front yard, and the power blinkered off/on about 4 times last night (according to wife, I was out like a lamp). Otherwise we’re OK. Neighbor down the street had a rather large limb come down, but didn’t hit anything. About 20 minutes of chainsaw action and he’s back to mostly normal as well.

We were lucky. Other sections of town have power down and out for extended time, and I’m sure if I bothered to turn on local news, there’d be shots of people with branches on cars and in living rooms. There are a couple of places in town susceptible to flooding, so they may be toast… but I repeat… we got lucky. (Although I didn’t get lucky… gonna try to get some wine in the wife this afternoon for that…)

They closed schools all over the place tomorrow.

News says millions without power, and plenty around here, but for the moment, we seem to be OK. We had a power “hiccup” earlier, which reset a bunch of our clocks and made the TiVo we were using at the time restart, and the winds are still quite high and ugly, so things could go south in a hurry, but as of 11:37 (just after the Monday Night game) we’re OK.

My wife may still need to go to work in the morning, but I’ve got a day to chill and shoot some macro shots of Halloween candy for Thursday.

Not a-feared of wind damage, I guess, eh?

I’m re-thinking my usual parking arrangement (under a dozens of feet tall maple) for the time being. That, and bringing in the decorative flag are about as prepared as we’re going to get… for now.

FWIW – every time the weather channel shows the areas under watch/warning, we’re smack in the middle of the red zone. Fortunately we’re far enough from the coast (3-400 miles?) that we’ll get some of the pain, but are not likely to lose house, life or limb. We also aren’t in a flood zone (the canal’s downhill from us, and where we are the cut for it is well over 30 feet down to water level).

ennuipoet – if they decide to issue a Katrina-like evacuation notice, I will be more than happy to host you… we can finally have that beer (I’ve still got my 2 growlers from the Anniversary road trip, not to mention most of a 12 of Honey Brown and some assorted other tasty treats.)

We probably won’t even lose days of work, but we are already making plans to decamp to the trailer if power goes out… the furnace will keep us warm enough, and the batteries will keep us relatively lit. A day off for shooting storm damage would be a nice gift, however…
