Heh…
Years ago when we made the mistake of hosting a foreign exchange student, he got hit by a car while on one of my spare bikes and the wheel ended up looking like that. Ultimately, the guy’s insurance paid for the kid’s hospital bill and a new cheap-o Schwinn from Wal-Mart. The bottom bracket’s already gone in the thing…
I have GOT to learn how to change those, as I’ve got at least 2 bikes with that problem.

‘cuda, I know you’re the resident bike expert. Got a question…

I found a bike, and have it almost ready to ride. However, the rear wheel was really out of whack, so I tried to true it up. I got close, but not close enough before stripping the spokes. How would you suggest I get it the rest of the way true? I don’t really want to take the whole thing apart, and I’ve never replaced a spoke, so are there any tricks for this that I can do?

This one is FUN to shoot for, lemmetellyou. Got a whole bunch tonight on my way back from teaching college way out in the boonies.

A bonus benefit of bringing my camera to school near-daily… one of my students busted the window in my door at school (the middle school, not college) I was able to take a variety of high-res shots detailing the damage. Here’s hoping the little turd gets more than one day in ISS…

Sigh, I swear this is the last time I archive dive to my African trip for photos….

Don’t do that… with 3,999 pix, I’m going to be archive diving into Italy for a looooooooooong time to come. The one for this week was the only one I had 7 or more days ago. the other 2 were shot since Saturday morning. I’d hate to think I’m the only one…

I rarely shoot for a contest the week of the contest. I’m usually out shooting, and something that’s been hoppered (or not, as the case may be) pops into my head based on my subject matter.

This week, however, one of my shots was specifically for this, and a second one was just serendipity on Saturday. I had no idea what that third one was going to be until then.

The one thing I really enjoyed about my hand injury years ago was the 5 days in a la-z-boy whacked out of my mind on codeine watching HBO for hours on end… the bliss of it all….

Is anyone else seeing faces in some of these?

I know I see one in my Frontier Field shot, and another little one in the bottom of my Rollins one. Other people’s also have faces and stuff I’m seeing in them.

If you’re in one of the 47 states in which the Libertarian Gary Johnson is on the ballot, you can have confidence and a little pride in your vote.

Just sayin’… it’s been a very long time since I voted for either major party. Being in New York, my electoral vote is going to Obama no matter what I think, so I like to vote Libertarian because it’s far far closer to my ideology.

Apparently my model is having dental work in the next couple weeks, so we’re on hold, so I’ll have some time to potentially practice, and definitely to get this all down.

I’ll be getting some white board (we’ll see whether it’s foam-core [ideal] or just super-heavy card stock.) As for an assistant, I expect there to be another adult, as she’s underage, and there’s NO WAY I’m going to be alone with her. I have too much to lose because of some mis-understanding.

So is anyone else having way too much fun with this one? Narrowing it down to 3 is going to be really tough.

I agree… I only checked two vacation folders and was VERY particular and still had to really contain myself. I’d lose much productivity time if I really went full-retard on an archive dive.

(pardon me if you’re offended, but I just watched Tropic Thunder again this weekend… just as funny the 4th time…)

I hope you heal faster than I have.

I, too, wrecked last year… Friday before Labor Day 2011… mashed up my rotator cuff. Months and months of physical therapy (at least it was only once every couple weeks… and she was hot)… still have some discomfort… really oughtta get doing the exercises again.
