Participantgeom_00, you’re correct about the thread ID. The full link to the Fark test thread is http://www.fark.com/comments/69.

ParticipantExcellent suggestions, Kes. Funny enough, your post in the other thread where you mentioned having the themes categorized put a similar idea in my head. We could even do something like a tag cloud that shows the frequency of tag usage in our themes.
I can’t think of a quick ‘n easy ‘n free solution, but I’ll continue to puzzle over it. When I get a chance to do some more development, contest & user search & index pages are next on the list, so I’ll keep these ideas in mind and will be coming back to you to at a minimum get your categorizations and tags for the themes.

ParticipantYep, there are actually two sets of bots (or at least two actions that they take) – one that makes sure the link to the picture itself is valid and one that makes sure that any link to bigger is also valid. That’s why you’ll see entries disappear during the middle of the contest if your host has a hiccup.
And as for me, I didn’t think you came off as Crankypants McButthurt. I (and I’m sure all who’ve participated for any period of time) have felt the same at one point or another. The bottom line is that I don’t think it’s possible to know the whims of the voters in particular and the internet in general.
Here’s a bit of strangeness that I’ve found in my shots: The most searched for and viewed image of any that I have (and I’m talking by a wide margin)? It’s not one of my wins or even one of my entries. It’s this B-side from my b-side page for The Book of Armaments. WTF?!? I’ve since learned that the little .25 pistol in that image is one of the most frequently used in illegal actions, so maybe wannabe thugs are doing their research?

ParticipantElsinore, I don’t know when you wanted to start doing the call-out to the newbs & long-time-no-sees (LTNS), so I’ll just leave this here and you can use it or ignore it. I’ve defined LTNS as more than 6 months (26 contests) since they last entered. Is that good or should we use a shorter/longer period? Also, anyone have any ideas on a good (shorter) name for the LTNS’s?
The newbs this week are Misteja and mrjin.
The LTNS’s and the time since their last entry are:

ParticipantHere’s the original shot resized and superimposed on the current one with a difference filter. I think they’re the same shot, just with the current one tweaked for contrast and sharpened. Even if it’s the identical shot, it could still be a different frame, so I’m not advocating any action, just shrugging the responsibility off onto Els. 😉
Good luck with your camping trip, Els. Hopefully the weather’s a bit nicer this time.

ParticipantD’oh! OK, forget my suggested addition to the description, it’d be really silly to leave birds out of an airborne theme. I’ll just step back out of the picture now until Farktographer can answer since it’s his theme…
CauseISaidSo
ParticipantI would agree that clouds fit the current definition but would vote that it’s tweaked to exclude them so we don’t wind up with a repeat of Cloudscapes from May. Perhaps by saying that the “something” airborne should be artificial. I’m good either way, that’s just my two cents.

ParticipantI swear I’m not so anal retentive that I comb through looking for reposts intentionally, but while viewing the full-size entries in the thread for the first time just today, I saw one that looked familiar. I’m fairly certain that this one is the same as this one from Artsy Fartsy, just with tweaked settings and a wide frame around it.

ParticipantZero, the number of hits from Fark.com may include the link checker bots, so it might represent less than 75 actual people. I’m not sure how often the bots run, but I see them a lot in the server logs for my entries. I don’t know how representative my stats are, but since I host different images for small vs large, I can tell exactly how many people choose to view larger and it’s never more than a handful.
CauseISaidSo
ParticipantWell, I’d guess that depends on whether you take being told that you’re one of us as a compliment or an insult! 🙂

ParticipantGod, it’s like you’re in my head.
/How’d you get in there, anyway?
I’m not sure myself, but would it kill you to tidy up in here every now and again? 😛

ParticipantI generally post mine in the order I like them. But in a bit of geometric OCD perhaps, if I have two portaits and a landscape (or vice versa), I’ll rearrange the order so that the odd man out is framed by the other two. Hmm. That sounds weird even to me after writing it out…

ParticipantI can’t duplicate that one in either IE, Chrome or Firefox. Can you try doing a full-refresh on the main page (ctrl-F5 in IE, not sure about others)? Does it fail on every username you enter or just certain ones? Something else you can try is to delete all cookies from the bibliostats domain. Cookies are only used to remember what tab you last visited, so nothing is really lost if you delete them.
CauseISaidSo
ParticipantSorry about that, it was a problem with the new Scarlet R tab. I didn’t take into consideration the fact that when both duplicated entries are in the same contest, it might not be the most recent entry that gets deleted.
Duplicate entries in the same contest happen when someone mis-posts and the link shows up as text (which the scraper will still interpret as a valid entry as long as voting is enabled) and then re-posts the same thing correctly as an image.
It should be fixed now so let me know if you see it again.
